very cool.. I was doing that as we are speaking.... I've heard several replies from people with the $150 mobil plan that travel at highway speeds with no issue, and others who loose it at about 25mph.... are you able to travel at highways speeds on that plan?

Have had Starlink for 2.3 years no, LOVE IT ! If you look in the App you will now see a selection for TIME OF DAY SERVICE, this allows you to limit Starlink for the times of day when it is not needed to SAVE POWER. This is advantages as you will not forget one nite to turn off and use up a ton of power over night. There is a way to power the Starlink directly from 12 volts which saves a bit of conversion loss of the inverter. Would love to get the flat panel , but the cost of converting just is not worth $2500 Us on top of the original $700. If you travel out of cell range repeatedly this is the best way to stay in contact and yes even watch Netflix at night. Cheers and safe travels Steve h.

Wow that’s informative! I didn’t know that the system could use 12v? Having to use the inverter is definitely taking a toll on the power draw. I’ll have to look into that and also the ‘save power mode’. We really love the fact that we do not have to worry about putting a dish on top of the roof every time we park. Also driving and having internet is clutch! I appreciate this comment a lot ❤️

Thanks for the video guys. Love the magnets, love not drilling holes into the roof! How's it working out for you guys after 10 months? You feel ok going down the road at 75/80 MPH?

Thanks for the support! Absolutely. 10+ months of having the dish mounted with magnets through every form of weather you can imagine and it’s held up. Ran the chord through the sliding door (which did smush up obviously) and it’s still working strong.

I’m working on editing a video about that install as we speak. I will say that the cedar came from an Amish community in southern Tennessee. They were much more affordable than store bought planks and the finished product is gorgeous.

Damn that’s great speed! Something you may have already heard, you can modify the dish to power over DC and save some power. A guy on KZitem was saving around 25%. Have to modify the cable and use a different router though.
@treyandaddie

Someone mentioned that in another comment so we will look into it asap. Could definitely use 25% less power on our batteries that’s for sure. We will definitely take that speed while being in the middle of nowhere and on the highway!

Thanks for watching! It works just fine while driving. There has been moments where we don’t have cell service and we can make calls with wifi. Kind of clutch! We pay $155 per month on our plan. Not sure what else they offer but I’m pretty sure it’s our only option

I'll be honest. I don't know if the in-motion stuff is really that useful to for RVs and Vanlifers. I think the normal dishy might be a better option. If you get a nice long cable you can park the van under some nice trees for sun blocking and then run the dish off to a clear area with good line of sight to a clear sky. Plus $600 vs $2500. That being said. it will be amazing to have on travel day. I have the standard Gen 1 dishy in my Semi truck and I'd love to get the in motion setup. Because at the end of my day I'd rather not have to take the time to put up the dishy and take it down in the morning.
@treyandaddie

Thanks for your comment @tairchanie. We can now attest that the In-Motion is definitely worth the price (at least to us). Hands down beats the Standard Dish with us being on the go and stopping so many times per day. We don’t have to setup or break down a dish every time we stop. Also, the main benefit is having high-speed internet while on the highway and of course in remote places. Stay safe out there!

Let me tell you why pay the extra money. Roam data plan gives you leftover data. That means when everyone packs up and goes to national park at the same time S you, you’re competing with 100s if not 1000s of others for data. Also if you go to some remote area where tons of residents use starlink you’re screwed. What’s the difference between 4 vs 8 mbps? Might say it’s the difference between being able to work remote and take calls versus dropping off meetings. Starlink has tons of adoption, faster than they can scale. Speeds ain’t getting better any time soon.

But I know how this is gonna sound but I was expecting to get a woman's perspective on starlink. I know other channels put the lady out front and I guess it works but it just feels a bit off. I know, I'm just some dude on the internet but it came to mind and there's a comment section. It's also a genuine thought and not meant to be rude. That's why I didn't put it in the top level. Wish you guys success with you channel and your travels.

Hey there! Thanks for commenting. (This is Addie, the woman in the thumbnail) Trey and I don’t have differing (and certainly not conflicting) perspectives on using Starlink - it is the same wifi for the both of us. I actually use Starlink more because of my job, but Trey was the head of the install, hence why he is talking in the video. If you’d like to hear me speak on it, I would be happy to do so! (Even though my womanly thoughts won’t be much different than his) Thank you for the well wishes! 🤙

How has the speed been over the last two months? I'm concerned about being "deprioritized" to the point where the service is useless. I've seen in-motion roam customers getting about 10% the speed a residential dish would receive. Has that been your experience? 7 mbps up is pretty terrible in the world of internet speed.

Given the resident high performance model is basically the same except it has motors to aim the satellite, I’m wondering if the performance is better? Is there a way you can modify the flat high performance such that it aims toward active satellites?
@agps4418
Жыл бұрын
i don't think it matters.. the US sky is most likely one of their priority area, so as long as the dish is pointing right up, it's optimal.
@treyandaddie

The high performance/in-motion dish has a broader field of view so it doesn’t have to manually move around to ping the satellites. The technology inside that receiver is why you can just mount it to the roof. I actually have a 5 month review video coming out tomorrow morning!
