What make and model is the thermostatic radiator valve in this video? Where can I buy one?
@edroberts9814
8 жыл бұрын
The radiator was lifted up about one half inch to align it to the valve. The radiator weight was thus transferred to the delivery pipe in the floor. Can this delivery pipe support about half the radiator weight? Or, would it be better in the long term to add shim stock under the radiator legs to better align the radiator to the delivery pipe?

Your could jump on that pipe all day and it will be fine, Those things are steel and very tough, I would be concerned if they were brass as it is brittle and cracks. But steel never will.
@talkingstaple

If it's a single pipe steam system, you'd definitely have to be careful shimming it up because you want it angled down toward the pipe.
@oftenlucid
3 жыл бұрын
I noticed that too. All the radiators I have seen that work properly need to have some slope, or grade to them so the water (Condisate) runs back down the pipe and back to the boiler. The way it looks like they left it would leave water sitting in the air-valve side of the radiator. They could not have left it that way. That is basic Radiatoring. . . I use some kind of shims to gain the slope/grade.

What is that sensor that is inserted through a hole in the radiator cover inside the cover by the radiator?
@Marcel_Germann
6 жыл бұрын
That's the actor, not the sensor. Inside of the part which is mounted outside on the cover is a container filled with a liquid which expands or contracts on exactly known temperatures. With the adjust knob (in this video outside of the casing) you raise or lower the volume inside of the container with the liquid. In this case the actor and the container are connected with a pipe. If the room, and the sensor, reach the adjusted temperature the actor is pushing down a pin in the valve he installed first and closing the valve. If the temperature lowers, the liquid contracts and the pin of the valve is opening. And this can open partially, so this is not only fully open or completely closed. You can see the valve here, and the pin. If the liquid expands it pushes down a pin on the valve. On the pic you can see the pin and the valve is now completely open because the pin is completely out. The pin is spring loaded, so you can push it manually down. But if you release it it will come out again and will be completely open: upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/a6/Heizkoerperventil2008.JPG

Not necessarily. Some inhibit convection, others promote it. Enclosures are a good way to alter an existing radiator's output without having to replace it altogether. And, of course, there's a safety benefit too.
@kalijasin

That's what I thought. Why they installing a Rad cover? It will impede, obstruct, etc.. a lot of the heat that is being transferred out by convection. It takes away from the look of the Rad as well which gives the place character.

@@mkrs01g If your radiator is hot enough to burn somebody's skin on short contact, then it's too hot anyway. Just turn the radiator heat down and avoid the problem without those covers.
