They actually sell reproductions that install like a regular wheel cover no clips. I had one with clips come off one day and distroyed it

Well hopefully this car isn't driven in extreme weather as it's quite the classic car. I'm sure many of those caps have been removed and never reinstalled. Thanks for watching.

Int he old commercials they use to say- "FORD: Has a Better Idea." Well...This sure as hell WASN'T it! Sorry, but even though they look nice when finally assembled, it'd never make it that far with me before shit get riffled about the shop. Throw this crap in the garbage, go find some Tru-Spokes, Star Wires, or any other wire wheel! Agreed! This design sucks!!!!

Would be a gold mine for any tire shop these days. What a ridiculous system. Hard on the rim.You'd think they'd have come up with a more simple mounting system. Be safe and stay well.

Good on you for having the patients 👍to get them installed .. wow they quite the pain for sure ! I wonder maybe if those little rubber things were to be like a , anti vibration thing , as so not to vibrate ,disc against rim an make clicking noise or something when diving on gravel roads or hitting crevices in roads .. I don’t know jus thinking out loud lol .. good video , someone will appreciate this video in future I bet when there trying to install theres👍👍
@soberingrestorationservices

I'm sure there is a purpose for those little rubber things and you could very well be right but these were not original wire rim wheels, they were reproductions and so perhaps that was why they weren't fitting perfectly. Appreciate your suggestion and thanks for watching.

What valve stem is used? I have regular hubcaps on mine with a valve coming thru the hubcap. Is it possible to use the same valve stem with the setup that you have?
@soberingrestorationservices

Just a short valve stem, but on the original style like these, there is no hole for the valve stem to be accessible. I know aftermarket ones do. Thanks for watching

As far as wheel weights go, i static balance, and only put weights inside the wheels. Someone will find this video helpful, as you said not much out there about these caps.
@soberingrestorationservices

We had them installed and balanced at a local shop as our tire machine was down at the time, inside weights would definitely be a better option. Thanks for watching.

Sorry that you had a hard time! Everyone back in the day had a version of their own clip retaining system too (Chrysler and GM) that could be frustrating also. I can remember many a time chasing hub caps down the road after hitting a pot hole. One time I had one travel on my Chevy a good 30 feet and end up on someone's porch! Grabbed it and darted back to the car before anyone came out of the house. Today, we just have wheels that fly off a car! That's progress!

I found that these make a terrible squeaking sound while driving, that sound is significantly reduced with the rubber "bumpers" but not eliminated. The problems Jeff discusses are real and unavoidable. If you are buying these, pay the extra for the clipless ones. The clips are $4.50 EACH (times 20 for the 55 or 25 for the 56 =$115) and I had a 20% failure rate as they bend the wrong way and must be discarded. Pluss I loose a couple every time I air up the tires. The pain frustration and expense must be close to what women experience with high heals. But if you want the look...
