Need to get a roll of backed insulation.. wrap the tub, THEN put the reflective foil bubble wrap around... Increase the R value from like 0.5 to 14...

You used reflective insulation around the tub. That REFLECTS the sun light to prevent the insulated object from getting hot. That is the opposite of what you are trying to accomplish. You want to use a black material that will absorb the sunlight and heat the pool.

Thanks for the tips! Got the same one and the 1st month heating bill went through the roof! Did you notice a big drop in your bill after putting this on it? I'd do the side roll for sure and put a less of an eyesore cover on top. We are in Seattle and it rains so putting a blanket is not great idea, maybe a foam cover and tarp. Thanks!

That foil wrap on the side is only a radiant barrier. It doesn't have a significant R-value which is critical.

I'm in Colorado Springs and I just bought one from Intex. I put the 1 inch foam between the patio and the bottom of hot tub to keep it insulated, it still loses heat through there as the snow melts around the tub, so I might get another inch and stack them later. During this really cold spell we had (highs around 15, low around 1) it stayed at about 99, which was still warm enough for me. I have it set at 102 and I find that hot. If it's a normal dead of winter day, with a high near 40, low in teens, it won't have any trouble staying warm, and I don't have any insulation on it yet besides what it came with. I will be making a box to go around the heater, with some insulation, just to help it out a bit since the water flows outside the tub to the heater... and will also use that as a drink stand!

@@yosemite98 ... I also live in Colorado Springs. I just took my down a couple weeks ago when low temperatures were consistently getting less than 35° I just don't want to take any chances. I also built a box for the control unit, and put insulation around it. And yes, it does work well as a drink holder too 😉

@@JoeMama-bw2vy , I built the wooden box with 1 inch foam on inside. It's really warm in there, so next cold snap it may stay at 102 vs 99... We'll see.

Did you have an issue with water between the insulation and the tub? Did you consider foil taping it to the tub? I just saw another person actually put the payers between the inflatable part and the surrounding case, which seems like it might be a good idea next time I do a full water change. Thoughts?

Those are inter-locking "gym mats" or "exercise mats". Pretty sure you can get them at WallyWorld, Dick's, etc. You might consider the 2"-4" insulation panels like the ones he made his 'lid' out of. Lay a tarp first, then the panels (taped together or not). Cut to fit. Cheers
