👍 Another clear description of how to gybe, but as it was being performed on a foil board it was ideal to know that there are several but slight variations of the actions performed to gybe on the foil boards in comparison to standard boards, but it is very beneficial to know what way to perform those prior to attempting them.

Michael.

After working on this for about a year, I still can't stay on the foil all the way through a jibe. In fact, for the first two months I crashed on every single jibe! Now I'm at a stage where I can foil into the jibe and stay on the foil through the foot change, but by the time I flip the sail the board usually has settled onto the water. It looks so easy in this video and others, but believe me, it is not! Not for me anyway. Even so, I will agree with your tips. The one about keeping your weight forward is a good one and has helped me. It's also a very good idea to keep the mast upright, as you say. The second you let the mast tilt to one side or another, the jibe is doomed.

Thanks for useful tips. Like Anto, I have spend much time trying to get windsurf gybes. I'm still learning foiling basics, so haven't got to gybes yet, but I'll have to tackle them soon!

Thanks for the tutorial! One thing I am not sure about is to "bring the sail close to you before flipping". My experience shows otherwise - it is better to keep the rig away when flipping. On the video it can be seen that when you bring the sail close you load the windward rail and the board turns briefly into wind.

Thanks You, very good. One. I would like to see a big sail foil gybe 7.5m-8.5m. Two. Demonstrate the gybe using a narrow board like free race or free ride 65-70cm wide. Three. A gybe using #One and #Two.

Very clear video explanation thanks. So if I understand correctly, when you go faster than the wind and get back-winded during a jibe, the strategy is to lean into it and allow the opposing force of the wind to slow you down until you are no longer back-winded?
@surfmagazintv
4 жыл бұрын
Hi John! Yes, leaning into it will slow you down a tiny bit and prevent you from being pushed backwards. But the moment when you're actually in danger of being back-winded is comparatively short and limited to the moment, when you're going completely downwind. So the general idea is not to stay on downwind course until you're slowed down, but to make it through this crucial moment. All the best

Yee, this is very interesting moment in foil gybe, not to get back-winded, complete different phenomen compared to fin board gybe, when you overtake apparent wind itself... 😄

Great tutorial. Looks like the footstraps are outside for the shots on land, but inside for the on-water footage?

You have good eyes. We just changed to inner strap positions while shooting the tutorial. In combination with small sails and for people who want to learn the foil jibe, a inner strap position is just a bit more comfortable. All the best!

Thanks! Will try these tips out. I can see already i make mistake #3. May i ask a couple of questions about your setup please? I see u prefer outside footstrap position on a wizard 130 and that is with a small sail, why? And what would be your biggest sail for light winds like 8 knots?
@surfmagazintv
2 жыл бұрын
Hi Nick, honestly I would always choose the inner strap position on this board-foil-combo. Outer position gives you a bit more control on the legs, inner position is just more accessible and maneuvre oriented. The biggest sail on this board-foil-combo for me would be a 6,5 no-cam sail. All the best! Manuel
