Shout-out to GWEN !!!! Everyone has already said what I wanted to. These new format of instructional videos are the best. The simultaneous filming from both a 3rd-person view from the shore and the GoPro 1st-person view (almost 1st person) is a lot of work. And you guys are doing it amazingly well. Also, great job with however you are managing the audio quality. It's superb.

Definitely the most understandable video I've seen. QUESTION - Is the jump purely from the power of the kite climbing at your current speed against your edge, or do you power up with the bar as it climbs? (Ie create more lift with the kite by fairing it). Thanks
@DamienLeroyYouTube
Жыл бұрын
Mark, All kind on one motion yes! Really it comes from the surge of the kite in theory but the bar pulling in as well can really help on more bow style kites. Older c kites with less throw on the bar it is the surge and sending the kite in the opposing direction into the wind. I hope that helps.

Great stuff Damien! Everyone will want to be miked up during their teaching videos now. Very helpful. I’ve been jumping ugly for years and feel like I’m finally getting it. Can you say just a little bit about the timing of the release and hard edging in relation to the movement of the kite when you send it. Any little things that tell you NOW is the time to release and edge?
@DamienLeroyYouTube
2 жыл бұрын
Great questions! Well honestly it will be more repetition to learn the timing. Wind strength changes a lot of that as well. A bigger kite vs smaller kite. It's usually a longer edge hold on a big kite as you are waiting for it to climb and a shorter edge hold on a little kite as it will surge faster. The better you get you can hold the edge very quick and hard. The real goal is to have the kite surge above you then you release.

Damien! Thanks for more great stuff Favor please: 1) wind Pls comment on how hard the wind should be in order to jump high - my sense is that in order to boost you need a lot of wind and a small kite Should you rig bigger than you normally would - to be just a bit overpowered or just at the limit? 2) lip no lip Many of us do not have those epic ramps Can you do a jump lesson session on flatter water? Thanks! Your wing foiling vids have been super helpful too L

Damien, appreciate the video! sometimes when I load/edge too much I go into an involuntary back roll high in the air. how can I prevent the involuntary back roll?
@DamienLeroyYouTube
2 жыл бұрын
Well interesting. I would always try to edge the same and pop off the back foot don't let it slip out from under you as it can cause you to rotate. Think of pressuring your back leg and releasing. Start with small jumps build up and see if it helps the rotation from happening.
@bolanos68

Great explanation Damien. I always find up to 7m/8m high jumps the kite doesnt overfly me, but higher than that it does. I can see at 4:05 you go for the loop. Is that because it is a higher jump and you need to be 'caught' on the way down. I'm downlooping but not in mid air yet!

That ultra wide angle camera shot is very deceptive. On your jumps it makes it look like you have the kite infront of you as if you are doing a megaloop. I know it is the angle but I can't help but feel that some new kiters are going to try this and get hammered.

Releasing the Edge whilst sending to 12 or before ? and then right before i pull the trigger edging hard again right? :)
@DamienLeroyYouTube
2 жыл бұрын
you are edging along, releasing your edge for a split second "bringing your body more upright" board flatter and then you edge as hard as you can into the wind as the kite is sent across your head to jump. It will give you the most leverage to jump. If not you will get pulled off your edge and you fly downwind. Hope that helps.

Awesome vid. I struggle with the kite control at landing mostly. Mostly because I don't fly the kite back down at landing I think. Out of fear of hard landings and destroyed knees. So seeing it with this camera angle is awesome. But how did you not get a hard landing at min 4.08 when you looped it? You were on the way back down almost already there.
@DamienLeroyYouTube
2 жыл бұрын
Start small and redirect the kite before you land and build your way up, your confidence will rocket up knowing you can come down softly! Great questions! When you are on the way down your kite flies a little behind you on larger jumps. The kite is more above you so when you loop it, it is like a helicopter above you and catches you as it loops around. Takes some time to learn but in a nut shell that's what is happening.
@tmotten
2 жыл бұрын
@@DamienLeroyKZitem ok cool. Thanks. How can I avoid that becoming a kite loop though? I fly a 12m XR mostly, for reference..
@DamienLeroyYouTube
2 жыл бұрын
@@tmotten Its a little harder on bigger kites if you can try on a smaller kite to learn the timing it will help! Saying that you can do it for sure on a 12m you just have to make sure you have jumped really big and the kite flew past your head and behind you as you are on the way down, then you can point that bar and the kite will loop above your head! If you see the kite at all in your view it will become a kite loop yes unfortunately....

Hi Damien. Nice video. Thanks. I think I understand the release and edge, but maybee some clarification - is basis/ 0 direction half wind/ 90” - then release a little downwindto edge hard upwind. When do you send the kite… before “litte downvind” at same tile as “litte downvind or when you edge sharply? When do you “pull the bar”?

You redirect the kite to jump, as you start edging into the wind as hard as you can. It will happen A split seconded after you release the edge for a hair of a second, you then edge as hard as you can against the kite at the same time redirecting the kite to jump. I hope that helps.
