Hey ron. Forwarding a question i emailed you to here: wanted to suggest an idea for a video you can make- if you'll think it can continue the series you have and if not- i was very interested in the effects time has on things that were memorized very well. i'm referring to your memory wall project. since it's something you did in 2012 (I believe)- I wonder how much of it still is there like that quote you have from Teddy Roosevelt? so maybe you can make a video on that not just how to memorize for the long term but from your experience- what happens to what we memorize? for you- can you still go on the journey and write out the entire wall? or if you hear a name- does it automatically sound familiar either way, i hope you can answer my question. because after all, if we spend time and effort, how can we get the most out it? 🙂 many thanks

Great video Ron. I love that Teddy Roosevelt quote as well. I plan on memorizing it too and will use this video to keep the forgetting curve in mind. The self-testing review you mentioned is definitely a solid idea. I've also read research that shows that even if the memory is fuzzy, the very act of struggling to remember it will help strengthen it, even if you end up having to check your answer or you were wrong. Thank you!!

Ron, I greatly appreciate your heart and drive for training people on the lost art of memorization! How do you memorize large pieces of content...does your course specifically go through this? I hear you saying repetition, and that we are growing muscles, and that the more emotion, the more weight the item has, but is there a way to create photographic memory for large passages? Mind Palace is an amazing technique for me for small items, or to do lists! I am struggling with large passages of the Bible, especially if if have 3-4 from the same book, and same chapter, on the same topic, with similar words.

So, to summarize: active recall with spaced repetition. For anyone who needs to study/memorize something, I highly recommend Anki (or something equivalent) to help with that.

but without a memory system anki is just going to help you with spaced repetition. It's not enough to have an elite memory.

What's your take on eidetic memory? 'Cause in most cases, it is anecdotal (someone claims to have it or know someone who's (said to) have it), and there is really no scientific evidence (or conflicting evidence rather) to prove or refute it (not that it matters or anything). For instance, the mathematician John von Neumann was able to recall from memory every book he had ever read. And similar cases. www.theguardian.com/science/2017/feb/08/total-recall-the-people-who-never-forget
