Those first pictures are how my kitchen used to look when I had a working dishwasher. The dishwasher broke and now I hand wash dishes. The weird thing is, now that I'm hand washing, the kitchen stays clean! The single most important tip you mentioned is rinse the dish immediately and place it in one side of the sink. Once that side is half full, I wash them and put them away. Hand washing has been life-changing.

Routines have helped me so much. I used to wait until I felt overwhelmed to tackle dishes... But now I just do it after each meal. You are right, It helps so much. I love the tip of rinsing and teaching your family to rinse too! That is awesome that your dishes are done after you cook. That's a habit I need to strengthen. This video was super motivational. thanks for sharing so many awesome tips!

Our house rule is each kids washes the dish(es) they used as soon as they finish using it (before the food gets baked on to it). It takes so much less time if you wash it as soon as you're finished eating.

Love your tips! So very helpful. The only change I made is that the cook never cleans the kitchen after the meal. The ppl who ate the food do that. And by using your tips, cleanup for them will be minimal.

I do most of the same things, and I now actually prefer handwashing over using the dish washer, because I wash, Dry and put away during my routine morning and evening cleaning sessions and while preparing dishes. I relax better at night knowing I don't have to deal with any left-over dishes in the morning, including putting them away. Here's a strange tip: wood ash that came from your fireplace or wood stove is great for removing tea, coffee or food stains from ceramic or porcelain dishes or cook ware. It sounds gross, but it also has affective anti-bacterial properties. So this is what I do: 1. I always keep a small container of wood ash that I've saved in one of my kitchen drawers. It must be kept dry at all times, if it gets wet for too long, it will harden, and it becomes toxic to breathe in while it dries. But when used properly for this purpose, it's perfectly safe to breathe in...no mask needed lol. 2. During the pre-rinse stage: pour just a small amount of ash onto or into the dishes that need it. 3. Take a rag that you use only for very dirty or greasy dish jobs, rinse it with cold water to wet it, then "wash" the ash-filled dishes until the dish looks brand new or virtually brand new depending on how set-in the stain already is. Note: the ash is also a great de-greasing agent. 4. Rinse the dishes that you used the ash on, to remove any grit. 5. Do a quick wash with the dish soap as usual to remove the rest of the grit. This whole process takes litterly seconds. Make sure the rag is thoroughly rinsed before you put it in your dirty laundry for washing later.

I love the idea of washing after each meal but with two children under two that's just not doable. Their demands come before doing dishes, but doing dishes must happen for them to live in a healthy environment. Still at a loss for what is a good routine for me.

I understand. ❤ I'm also in the season where I don't get the dishes done until all of my kids are in bed...and sometimes the dishes sit in the sink until morning. 🙃 Your children will grow one day, and it'll be a little easier to keep up with the dishes. ❤

Thank you! I still need to get into practice with washing the dishes after every meal...its hard! 😅 My best tip with dried on food is to use gloves, hot water and a scrubber that I use in the video. 👍 If its a pot/pan. You can add water and boil it a little to loosen the food off the pan/pot.

I'm already my sisters slave by choice. She is 13 and I'm 15. I do ALL of her chores and let her take all the credit so she gets paid for them. I clean up ALL of her messes. When she does something wrong, I take blame for it so she dont get in trouble. I do all of her homework so she can do what she wants to do! I never argue with her! When we are both home....I wait on her hand and foot....she never has to lift a finger!
