I’ve used hardware cloth on all of my beds for 20 years. We have a horrible gopher problem. Normally we build with wood and staple the wire on. I love how you’re doing these beds. The double layer of weed fabric. The whole set up. For my new homestead we’re switching to metal beds so your demonstration has convinced me I’m on the right track. I can’t wait to watch how they progress.

I hate those rodents ( moles/voles)!! I didn’t know I had them until last year when they ate my whole crop of onions! This year I planted my onions in a raised container. It’s an old cattle water trough that was cracked and wouldn’t hold water. I drilled drainage holes in the bottom sat them and cinder blocks and filled them with soil. I was gifted 4 of them. Sure makes gardening easier on the back.

I like what your doing with the covering and hardware clothe. Should keep moles/voles out and also extend the life of the hardware clothe. I know time is of essence to get this done so can get to planting and get stuff growing. Also probably easier to get some of this done before the high tunnel is covered and can get the heavy stuff and soil in there. Those raised beds are nice and will save you time and money in long run. Won't be needing to spend on rebuilding more. Thanks for sharing what your doing. Many blessings to both you and Wanda.

Good morning, Its so nice to see you starting this at Pecan Grove ❤ I agree 100% about wooden raised beds ,We put in 6 wooden 4x8 wooden raised beds back in 2016 , then switched to metal , as with the sun, humidity, my husband and our oldest son has had to re-fix the wooden beds , Our metal beds have been great ! 👍 Im very happy for both of yall , We started our seeds on heating mats last weekend ,light are already still on our shelving from last year , Ive been babysitting our onions ,making sure to fertilize and water 💧 weekly , as Oh my 1 onion cost me $1.76 last week , I will be so happy to have onions again this year ( as last year we couldnt plant any onions due to my horrible back surgery & sepsis I did survive ,but my back isnt good ) But my husband has truly done things to help me this year out in our gardens , a rolling seat for me to weed etc..... Yes, please, everyone plant what you truly eat , We decided not to plant regular potatoes this year , not good for my husband being diagnosed with diabetes, to many carbs , So planting more low-carb veggies this year . God bless you both and hoping Mrs. Wanda is feeling better , I know its a daily struggle for me to get up and push myself ... Great content as always . Mrs josette Montgomery County, Texas 🙏

That looks so nice y'all! We broke down and bought four of the Vego beds that are 32 inches high since we're both in our seventies and are tired of bending over. I believe it's going to be a game changer. We still have 10 of the 11 inch deep cheap metal beds, and few wooden ones along with tons of grow bags. The grow bags are set up bleacher style and my peppers do great in them. Just a few changes every year is nice and hopefully one day our kids will make good use of them.

Danny, to keep voles out you need 1/4" screen. They can get through the 1/2" holes. Do a search on the differences between mole hills and vole holes and look around your property and you will know what you got. But in my experience if you got one you got the other.

@vickisavage8929 my problem in my older run is that mice and voles were able to dig under the hardware cloth I had around the perimeter and would come in at night looking for food and making a mess. Since the chickens were asleep in the coop they weren't able to catch them. Yes, they absolutely will eat them if they can catch them! Danny, I have also planned using the same hardware cloth when I am able to coordinate my help in making myvrsised beds. I plan on putting down cardboard first. I like your implementation of using ground cloth to protect it. I also have contemplated utilizing the copper hardware cloth for potential to capture the ground release of electrons. Not sure it would be worth it, I do not know of any studies on this but the basic theory with the copper coils leads to this as being a feasibility. It would capture the energy from the earth itself rather than the air. Thank you for your knowledge and experience. Your videos have confirmed some of my thought processes regarding how to do my raised beds. With my back and neck issues I can no longer dig in the ground but raised beds and containers make it feasible along with ways to inhibit pests and provide cold weather mitigation as I live above the frost line. We have not had our yearly hard frost yet.

I just checked out their site (didn't use Mr. Danny's link as I'm not buying right now.) But they're showing a president's sale of B1G1, 20% off + special offer for select items. They have a 32" extra tall 9 in 1 modular metal raised garden bed kit, not a bad price. I'm on the poor side, but these would be worth getting (especially if you have to buy lumber (which isn't cheap in my neck of the desert). Ooh in the Classic garden bed tab, they have special shapes .. i may finally be able to something with my front flower bed.
