Thanks for the video man, going to butcher my first cow this weekend for the meat, wanted to know the best way to do it, going to donate some of the meat to the homeless for the holidays coming up. Thanks man! I'm planning on keeping the tongue the cheeks and maybe a rib roast for dry age and donating what I get after that to charity. so thanks for the help, I'll try and pass it on. Also its not sick or anything just trying to help other people out.

GREAT video. - Many years ago, we used to kill a cattle evey year in my dad's mini-farm. - At that range, I can get the same result with a smaller caliber which burns around half powder than a .243 Win.. - Everybody should see it. However, not everybody can see it. - I appreciate your concern about life/death.

delmont223 -THANKS! You remember me: to kill a cow, bull... one of my maternal retired uncle farmer always used: 1- his charisma to calm down his cow by talking to her and petting her like a real gentleman. 2 - a pocket (small blanket) to make her blind and she won't move her head. 3 - a 24 oz. mechanic hammer to knock her out. 4 - a knife to cut out her throat = INSTANT KILL. Personally, I'm not comfortable to do this job like him, do you? Lol

I just found your video, and was wondering if a vet examined the heifer before she was put down.

Y’all dislike the video cuz the guy killed an animal. Smh he put this poor animal out of it’s misery the quickest way possible. It’s that or let this animal suffer for days, maybe weeks until it dies. Also it was done off camera.

People like these will go to heaven, those who respect animals, just because you kill an animal doesn’t mean you didn’t respect it. I wish the meat industry was this humane, good job man

I too appreciate the video. It serves to reinforce the training i had at the feet of a scout master. Yes, my scout master taught me and several others the humane way to put a cow down. In this case, he was the extension agent for the county, but also taught at the local university and he got permission for the 3 or 4 of us to go down and slaughter some beef cattle that were good for butchering. We used a 22mag staple gun they developed themselves. The cow was harnessed into a rig they welded together that held their heads still, and then we just pressed the barrel of the gun, that was also the trigger. We had to hit them right in the 'x marks the spot' exactly as you put it in this video. As a game hunter, that's the place I shoot for. I'm a marksman and don't have much trouble hitting the spot I'm aiming at out to about 300 yards. I use a 243 because it shoots flatter and delivers a nice punch without the wind or gravity messing with it for those ranges, especially with my hand loads that travel about 3500fps. I know I'm burning up my barrel, but I don't shoot it enough to burn the barrel up before 15 years, which is coming up pretty soon, come to think of it... I guess a trip the the gunsmith is in order. Thank you for this video. I'm not a LEO, though I wanted to be for most my life. I'm in my 60s now and with cousins who made the trip down that road, now retired, I got to do a lot of ride-alongs, and wished things could have worked out, but health-wise, I would have been a liability to the department, rather than an asset. 19 surgeries later, with more coming, and I am now grateful things didn't work out. I would have left a widow for certain. And she's not a warrior's wife. Not like my daughter-in-law when my son was a Tomb Guard, and before and after, for that matter. It takes a special breed of woman to marry a warrior, which LEOs definitely are. Thank you for your service sir.

I am deeply confused. I have moved out onto a working ranch where my best friend lives as her husband recently died. We had to put a cow down this week who had a dead and rotten baby part way out. So do you shoot the cow in the head where all the curl is or did you shoot the cow in the ear? I am trying to figure this out so that in future we can save a lot of money and not use a vet to put her down nor have to pay to put her in the ground in 24 hrs.

I had to put a cow down today, and it did not work this quick. I shot mine behind the ear which lead to another shot. Thank you for the video,,,,,, with luck I will never have to do it again but now I know how to do it the right way.

I ve worked as a butcher for years we killed everything with a 22 for big bulls or buffalo we stepped up to a 22 mag a 243 is over kill but it will definitely do the job, We had 6 buffalo escape a slaughter house the police dept went on a hunt with their 223 rifles it was ridicules they shot peoples house, cars. etc I forget the round count it was in the hundreds to kill 6 buffalo

The 5 iron of shooting, never heard the .243 referred to that way but I definitely like it. I'm going to use that. Good job with the video, I know a lot of people aren't going to like it but I appreciate what you're doing here.

It was going to die a very slow and painful death anyway, all he did was make sure it didn't suffer. We'll be so lucky if we die that clean, we probably won't though.
