You are a great teacher! Thanks for the video! I'm very new to knitting. I learned how to knit a basic scarf when I was in college (2005) and haven't tried since then. I am excited to pick it back up and learn a hobby that is mom friendly :-) now that I have two young boys. I'm SOOOO happy you explained the lifeline!!

Omg, the brioche stitch is tricky. I'll need to practice this before i put it in use haha. Life line is a great idea, in case you mess up. I tried this a couple times then had to pull it all out again and start again. I'm a continental knitter so i have to re-adjust my yarn after I Sl1 before I can do the k2tog.

What kind of fibre should be used for men's winter scarf? It should be warm and comfortable and not itchy.
@GoodKnitKisses

If someone wants a wool sweater and finds it itchy they might love alpaca. Alpaca tends to not me itchy and is hypoallergenic. It has similar properties to wool as well.

I thought it said it was the Long Tail Cast On. When the video began, it seemed like the 'Knitted Cast On." Do you know which one was used? They are both great cast ons and have different uses at different times but I was just wondering.
@hollyforsyth6536
8 жыл бұрын
The cast on in the video is the knitted cast on. You could use either, but personally for a straight scarf, I'd use the knitted cast on. If you were making an infinity scarf, I'd use the long tail, because that extra strechiness will really help you when you sew the ends together.

@MM-pw3wb

Jane Bute yes I thought this too. She did not bring the yarn to back to knit the two. I thought she would specify not to move it back as I would expect to for knit. Have you had success? Thanks😊
@TheRach11
7 жыл бұрын
Jane Bute its so it keeps your stitch count, by not putting the yarn to the back it crosses over and creates the extra stitch you loose by knitting the two together. hope that makes sence.....

Kim Ellingsen After re-watching this a few times and studying super closely, I THINK(?) that when she brings her yarn to the front, then slips the one stitch purl-wise, then knits the next stitches, it creates a stitch because she never moves the yarn back to the back before knitting those next stitches. It’s like making that mistake all of us newbies make when going between k & p, but on purpose. I haven’t tried this pattern myself but from what I’m seeing that looks like what’s happening. I hope that answers your question, or just makes sense. Lol!

Are you talking about your own knitting sample or mine? My scarf is nice and soft and stretchy as it should be in brioche. You can use a different cast on method if you like. There are other videos around showing this stitch by others. Hopefully they will help you if my style doesn't work for you.
