Out of curiosity and with respect, what was the point of knitting 3 rows w/waste yarn?

It is so much easier to understand the techniques when you do them. Your videos are awesome! Thanks for the circular ribbing! Now I want to learn how to do the 2X2 circular ribbing. Any time soon?

good, but simpler ways do exist you can use a crochet hock and will be time saving and easier to remove the waste yarn. videos are available for this but I enjoyed watching you

I really enjoyed watching you knit. I crochet, and am an intermediate and crocheting is so much easier in one respect, but knitting looks so much better than crocheting on some projects and knitting on others. I'm interested in knitting for blankets for children . I have three children's blankets to do.

Everyone seems to think the video is great, and it is until you skip over the part about taking off the waste yarn that you start out with. That's a fairly serious omission which I think you really should have covered. I'm starting on a skirt with 100 stitches to start, so this takes some time. I'm honestly not sure if it is worth all the extra time and effort involved. And on top of that, I feel that the first row of the invisible cast on looks somewhat too loose. Maybe when I get up 20 or 30 rows of the ribbing and give it a friendly tug here and there it will be better. I'm an 80 year old guy by the way.....

Fascinating! Very interesting effect. I've seen something similar for starting a project in the middle, and knitting out to each end, but I've never seen it go in only one direction. It's lovely, and would really look nice with lace.

I think the 2 color Italian cast on will give you a similar look. I generally cast on flat, knit a couple rows, then move to knitting in the round. It's not that easy to cast on in the round and keep from twisting thing up.

I'm trying this cast on in the round, and I'm not sure I understand-- do I not work the purl stitches at all for the first four rows? If I was knitting where I flipped my work the stitches would get worked, so do I just slip them? I am confused.
@yarnistco

I would probably work the cast on flat and then join it in the round once I started knitting.

What is the difference to your Alternating Cable Cast on? Doesn't it looks identical? Is the result the same?
@yarnistco
10 жыл бұрын
The difference between this and the alternating cable cast on? The cable cast on creates a different edge that is a little more durable and not as invisible.

Is there a way to do this for 2x2 ribbing? Or is there another stretchy tubular cast on that you could suggest for 2x2?
@ellisharris4418
8 жыл бұрын
+playhooky Yes. There is a way. I have done this a few times. It's a little counter-intuitive. 1) You do the exact same cast on as the 1x1 rib ("tubular" cast on). Just like in the video. 2) When you have the fourth row of your "tube" cast on, you just "convert" the 1x1 rib into a 2x2 rib. 3) Here's how: find a short, straight cable needle or a large darning needle; then knit the first stitch onto your regular needle; slip the next purl stitch onto your darning needle ( or slip it off "live" if you're brave enough). You have knit one stitch, and the following purl stitch is slipped on to your cable needle (or darning needle). You should be ready to knit the next stitch. 4) Knit the next knit stitch (the third stitch) onto your regular needle; now grab the purl stitch you just "skipped," off of the darning needle and purl it onto your regular needle; purl the next purl stitch (the fourth stitch) onto your regular needle. 5) You now have a 2x2 rib on the first four stitches of the row. If you do this same process of slipping and skipping every other purl stitch for the entire row, knitting across it, then purling the skipped stitch, you've now "converted" a 1x1 rib into a 2x2 rib. This seems like it might not look right, but when it's finished, you can see that you have a tubular cast-on with a 2x2 rib. Hope my instructions were clear enough!
