As I learn my new engraver, one thing I don't often see it the power of the laser used. If I know my Atomstack A5 Pro is a 5W laser, I would expect settings would be similar for a different brand with a 5W later. I'd love to see more information like that in videos of this type. That would be helpful for us newbies trying to understand what settings we need to be using to get similar results.

No, it’s a very cheap paint that is often used in elementary school for art projects

Experiment. Try a little thicker paint. Experiment with different settings. Layers of paint can make a big difference

I got a question for you Paw Paw, I have the long mill Mk2 30 x 30 and interested in buying there version of the laser. Do you think that with the same parameters and process, I would still be able to have the same effect on glass? Not to sure, kinda new to all this. Thanks
@PawPawsWorkShop

The process would be the same. The power and feed rates may vary. That will require a little testing.

Brillant video - Can you please tell me if you can laser etch the reverse side of a mirror (the coated side of the mirror)
@PawPawsWorkShop
Жыл бұрын
Yes, you can. Mirror the image. You will need to test the power and speed on the mirror. Also, use in a well ventilated area

Hey, Excellent and very effective video. I learned a lot. Forgive me for the stupid question. I'm new to this field. How did you wash the black paint off the glass after it dried? I would greatly appreciate your answer. and thanks a lot.

The tempera paint is water soluble and washes off easily

can we engrave on acrylic using 20w or 15w DIY laser ? and we have to paint it black too? why can not we engrave transparent acrylic directly with 20w laser?
@PawPawsWorkShop
2 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can engrave. Dark colors are best. The diode laser just shines through the clear acrylic. I have shown engraving on acrylic by actually engraving on the metal below the acrylic and it will burn onto the acrylic

Very cool! How do the settings change for a 7W laser?
@PawPawsWorkShop

On a 20 watt laser it output is about 5.5 watts and 60% power would be about 3.3 watts. Determine your output. I would suggest about 80% power and 20ipm. Test, test and more tests

@@PawPawsWorkShop Yeah when you said 20w alien laser I immediately jumped over to their site to see what the actual output is. SO many chinesium lasers rate the laser by the power consumption NOT the optical output. Now with that being said there IS a company (I forget which) who developed and just released a diode laser that IS 30w. What they've done is ganged up a number of diodes and then combined the lasers via a prism to make a beam that has all the power of all the lasers combined. No info on when they're going into production or the cost as yet. It was this past summer when I read about it.

It is similar. With the Make it software you have pre-tested grid for recommended settings. It still will require some testing

When you laser the glass how did you get the white color? I love the project and am trying to learn. I did a pie plate but it’s difficult to see the etching because it’s clear unless I have a dark backround
@PawPawsWorkShop

The white color is the glass itself. It’s normal to see the etching better with the black background

I would try using a white paint, if you intend on eating on the plates it could be bad idea,, as thhe food and such will get into the engraving, another thing that works on glass or plates, is T-O Titanium-Oxide, comes in powder form and you mix it with anything from water to paint thinners, I used plain alcohol as it helps the drying time, as anything you use it needs to be put on thick, so several coats work better.

For the glass it is the cheapest tempera paint available. This is a common paint used in elementary schools for kids. For the white tile method you need a paint with titanium oxide in it. This usually is found in white paints.
