this is cool that people do this out in the real world for every day needs. in they military we did this exact same thing but with telephone poles and we set it up with a pulley system so that we could manually lift up an entire vehicle. Your videos are keeping these skills from disappearing from todays world.

WOW! I was looking for a bunch of these tied together as I'm making it to cover the rather large birdhouse I'm making. Wanted this to cover the roof (500mm x 470mm each panel) but this was still a great video :D

Very well put together. I do not normally like vids where there is no talking/instruction. But you did well my man. I especially like how you show step by step, but show the end result first, makes things so much easier to follow. People could learn from you. Awesome job on the video. Time well spent.

Experience will show that a plain rather than figure 8 lashing is s little safer. Note that when you apply the frapping turns to the figure 8, it hardly tightens the wrapping turns. With a figure 8, the pieces of wood will twist more easily.

heyho at the federal agency for technical relief, we do i bit different for example we secure the first knot (forgot the name) with a half hitch (is it so called?) and surrounded the sticks six times and every time, we pull it tight. the tighter you bin it, the more weight it can handle. with three 30feet 4" timber, we could handle about 1000lb and even more. but it's nice and clean explained. i like it^^ greetings from germany

I just have one question: Why don`t you just tie the three bamboos with three Clove hitch knots? I guess you made all of this work for improving aesthetichal and resistance in the finished work, is there another reason for the "extra job"? On the other hand: Beautiful. Thank you for all your amazing videos.
@arueshalaetablebuildingsociety

Because a lashing provides far more stability and prevents the structure from falling apart as soon as you try to set it up. And, clove hitches are not the best not for securing something against gravity, because they tend to loosen and slip. So, I think that you'd find that your clove hitch scenario would fall apart, if not when you set it up, as soon as the wind blew past.

I offered to build a bamboo tripod for a seniors Tai Chi class. i proposed lashing the bamboo together but the concern was that over time the wrapping would loosen, and the tripod might fall. I realize the age of the video but do you or anyone have any suggestions to insure the lashings tightness?
