Great time to utilize levelseven's Pythagorean below. One of those techniques ya can't be without and the sooner ya master it's use, the more complex tasks you can tackle with exact certainty. Your channel is outstanding. There's always something to learn no-matter how good ya think you are. Thank You madman. You could easily do a few episodes on a few of the more difficult layout jobs. In my opinion, layout is half the game towards outstanding projects, which yours are. Great stuff as ALWAYS!

The best deck builder out there! I’m building a 24’ wide by 14’ deep 4’ wide steps on the left side attached to the house. How do I lay out the footings for this deck? Much appreciated

Pythagorean theorem is the best thing I ever learned when it comes to squaring up decks, figuring roof rafters. A² + B² = C² Which is a 3² + 4² = 5² , Which we all know as a 3,4,5 Common method of squaring up anything. A²+B²=✓C Instead of a 3 4 5, you can be more exact. If deck is 33'6" x 10' A² (33’6") + B² (10') = ✓C (34' 11 ½") Your diagonal measurement would be 34' 11 ½" Maybe it sounds complicated, but it's not. Basic math. I build decks everyday, this is the formula I use. Hope this makes sense. But still great video. 👍

I was hoping you were going to show cutting through the concrete and digging out the holes since this is something that I am facing to install a deck.

On that particular support post, could you not have used a larger size post say a an 8x8 or a 10x10 to give yourself more room for the beam going across to the other deck?

are you burying your 6 x 6 wood posts in concrete or using a post base? if post base sitting on concrete, which ones do you like to use?

If I am doing a 30ft span what is the best header I can get that is short? I want to use the space underneath for storage\possible kid play area ( using epdm system for rain oof system ) Do they make like short LVL treated headers or something? Planning on using 6x6 with 12" tube and 16"x18 in ground footings. Walls on 3 sides of the deck ( house is horseshoe shaped ). 3x beams

If you tilt a square out of level it's no longer giving a square reading - the more tilt the more out.

What part of the country are you in that you only have to go 2 feet. Lucky you. We are required to go at least 4 feet for a footing... 😞 And what method do you guys use to attach to brick?

do you ever use the simpson BVLZ system when attaching your ledger to brick veneer? i plan on it for my BV home and would love to see your method

Attaching a ledger board to brick depends on what's behind the brick. If the subfloors in your house is 2x10's, then that's what they're designed for. But most houses, these days, are built using I-joist. Sometimes floor trusses. You need to make sure what's behind the brick before you spend $50 a bracket. Cause they not designed for I-joist
