Some of us must be doing things right all of my dogs have always done the same. I think it's because we are not creating the separation anxiety in the first place. But/and I do touch and talk to my dog or dogs (happened to have a pack for a couple yrs). I go to the door turn around tell 'em, "stay and be good, doggy(s) and leave. Period. No anxiety. are my dogs attached? Yes! They are watching the door for my arrival, Lying or sitting in the same place I saw them last. the small to medium dogs may have visited the potty pad and chews ( such as smoked peak years bully bones beef or ox bones etc) may have been gathered and pulled over to the place to cure boredom, but I'm pretty sure they remained near that door the whole time except for going to get a drink and maybe a nibble of kibble.

Yesss! From day 1 of having to leave, I used a "night night treat" aka a Kong with peanut butter. She learned that when she saw me making this treat, that meant she had to go into her crate to have it. Once she learned the onlyyyy time she got the Kong was when she went in the crate. So as soon as she saw I'm done putting PB in her Kong, she runnnnsssssss into her crate & lays down and waits for me to get over to her to get her night night treat & her SnugglePuppy (without the Heartbeat now that she's older). So I use the night night treat when it's bedtime (hence the name) or when I need her to go in her crate when we leave. I set up a camera pointing at her crate so I could check in to see how she was doing after her finishing her Kong. She'd just fall asleep. The anxiety was on my part. She just went right to sleep. If I ask her if she wants a "night night treat" she starts to go crazzyyyy.. all excited. The Kong & SnugglePuppy have been a God sent as far as getting our puppy crate trained & have her want to go in with her Kong night night treat. She's almost 11mo old now, so we just started leaving her out at night. Next will be while we are gone for an hour or so... but close by. And eventually hoping she'll be able to roam around with no crate. But I honestly think she loves her crate. I make sure to put a sheet or tablecloth over the crate when I want her to go to sleep. So at night & even while we are home but has needed a break/nap, we do this. The Kong popsicle is a great idea to make it last longer! Love these videos!

We adopted a 3 year old Labrador who refused to eat food by herself cause she feared we would leave her. We had to hand feed her for the first week, sit by her for the rest of the month as she ate, slowly over the next couple of months we could be a bit further away and then in the next room. If we were going out we fed her at least 30 minutes before that so she wasnt stressed about food. We were pretty sure she was fed and then left alone for the whole day, as she knew how to use those drip water bottles.

If anyone could help me I’d really really appreciate it. I have a 12 week old Rottweiler puppy whom we are crate training, he whines in his crate ALL night and no one gets any sleep, this morning he was actually barking very very loudly and we worry about our neighbours. I’ve tried associating his crate with food and nice things and have never used it as punishment, I also let him out to potty every couple of hours and feel as if I have tried everything online from ignoring to trying to calm him down. He seems very independent in the house and is happy to chill alone with a bone but not in his crate - it has all sorts of toys in there (kongs, squeaky duck, rawhide bone etc.) any advise on what to do in this situation would be massively appreciated!

A dog with real separational or solitude anxiety won't eat at all most of the times. They only protocol I found useful is to not leave the dog panicking alone (petsitters, family) and leave for a brief periods of time (in my case it were seconds to 1 ro 5 min for months)

My dog absolutely loves it when I have to leave the house. When she sees me getting ready to go, she gets in her crate and waits. If she's not already in her crate, I say, "Okay, it's that time." She runs right to her crate. She gets her favorite treat, and I can be gone for hours.

I got my dogs as puppies, one at a time, and got them used to being left alone by slowly extending the amount of time I’d be gone. Before leaving I always take the dog outside to pee, check the water bowl, and I’m off. We don’t own a crate, but our house is dog-safe and clutter-free. We’ve never had a problem. It’s probably far more problematic with some older rescue dogs.
