In Canada, Marine VHF Weather Band broadcasts on both 161.650 MHz (21B) and 161.775 MHz (83B) in English and both 161.750 Mhz and 162.000 MHz in French. Marine VHF broadcast on NOAA frequencies in Western Canada.

Isn't the frequency different depending on where you are?
@hambilly-radio
Жыл бұрын
There are several official frequencies, and depending on where you are some of the frequencies will come through more clearly than the others. That’s more due to how well your location can receive the transmission from a nearby station, but you don’t have to deal with the frequencies shifting at all due to something like the Doppler effect. See here for the official list of frequencies: www.weather.gov/nwr/

Some days when I scan through the band I pick up NOAA and it’s in French. (Not often happened a handful of times.) I’m in SE Michigan. Obviously it’s Canadian yes. But it’s interesting Ontario would use French. And I had no clue NOAA was in Canada.

Pretty much start at 162.400 and increase .025 mhz until 162.550. 1 or 2 should stand out as the strongest frequencies but it just depends on where you're at.

A lot of cheap (in price, not in quality) DMR radio have some encryption options available when you program them. I’d start by checking out Raddiodity and BTech (USA based company that customizes Baofeng builds). Just be aware that if you use them for amateur radio bands it’s illegal to encrypt your transmissions. Other usages (commercial, etc.) may allow for it.

It actually works on my Baofeng (of course), Yaesu FT-70D, Yaesu FT-65, Yaesu FTM-7250, and Anytone 878. So any 2m ham radio should be able to do it unless what you are using is band locked for some reason

What about the off sets?
@hambilly-radio
11 ай бұрын
There are no offsets. Offsets on a ham radio are normally used for talking through a repeater tower (you transmit up or down 600 kHz on the 2m band, and listen on the target frequency). Since these NOAA Weather Radio broadcasts are receive only (you can’t transmit on those frequencies), you should remove any offsets and go right to the frequency you want to listen on.

If your Baofeng can't tune outside of 144-148 or 420-450 it's "firmware locked" to ham bands (there's a button combo to unlock it). If needed some cheap FRS walkie talkies in the U.S. have NOAA, too. Edit: also sometimes the squelch setting it way too high, try setting menu Sql to zero, or holding the MONI button if it tunes but nothing heard.

Based on the owner’s manual I found, it looks like the BC125AT works for this. Frequency range for the 2m band includes the NOAA frequencies, though I have not used the BC125AT myself. Looks good for both the USA and Canadian models.

So as far as latestes & greatest china radios with AM band only selectable manually or vfo mode bu AM t won't go into radio by PC as per memory it will default FM. Lol!
