How To Live In Alignment Series: Part Two:
Relationships vs Values: challenges example
For us, the biggest hurdle with being in alignment, has been when our values seem to collide with our relationships with others.
For example, our diet.
Over the eighteen years we’ve been together, we’ve tried many different diets, the latest, being carnivore.
So although our family isn’t new to our unique lifestyle choices, they still aren’t immune to our choices and how it affects get-togethers.
No one likes it when their world view gets challenged.
For holidays and get-togethers when all parties aren’t rowing the boat in the same direction, it can be jarring and uncomfortable.
👉You ask yourself: Is it worth it?
Do you have to choose between loving your family and doing what you know is best for you?
No. Most of the time, no. It just takes vigilance and communication.
👉Learning to effectively communicate your needs with those you love and who love you is an important life lesson that will help in all facets of your life.
Most of the time, it takes time and many conversations. It’s not easy and not a one and done. But it is worth it in the end.
Explain the reasons for your choices and ask that they please respect them even if they don’t fully understand.
Learn and Grow and Keep At It.
