Well done! Very inventive. In 2022, to get rid of the last of my debt, I set myself the challenge of living on £5 per week. For most of the year I suceeded and so the debt was gone. I also cooked on a stove top and used the oven only once per week to cut down on the electricity useage. Keep going - btw flatbreads are a life saver!

You could do flat bread pizza. Blizt some of the tomatoes into a puree & use the mozzarella & maybe some of the seasoning or spring onion or herbs. Whatever you like really. I've never liked porridge, but thought about rice pudding as a breakfast with fruit & places like Norway have it as a breakfast. Your strawberries won't take years to produce fruit. You need to feed them & your tomatoes, if you aren't doing already. (Sorry, I don't know how much you know & I'm not a professional myself, but have grown them in the past) You can get tomato feed quite cheap from B&M or home bargains & it will do for all your herbs, strawberries & tomato plants. You can buy "cut & grow again" lettuce & you just take the leaves you need & they just grow new ones. With a 2/3 plants you can have all the lettuce you need. Hope this helps

I've not tried them in the oven, but guessing they should work ...it's only the same as an air fryer🤷♀️ Have fun

@autumn5852 strawberry plants produce offshoots (they look like long stalks) that produce a little cluster of leaves at the end. If you stake the leaflets into soil, they will root. these are great to watch, especially as a struggling uni student! love the inspiration for the cheap food ideas. just a suggestion if its something you would be interested in, rather than cows milk, you can get soya milk for about 50p per litre! my favourite is the unsweetened kind from lidl as the aldi ones split under hot temperatures. i only use it to make my coffee less bitter in the morning with a few evening drinks such as tea, so the whole bottle lasts about 10 days usually. it just works out better financially for me but i know some people arent a fan off soya milk. great content either way, excited to watch more!

I'm finding going to zero waste shops you can bring a glass jar and fill it and get alot of good spices for not that much. I grew tomatoes, kale and carrots the year. The taste was amazing. The polish shops are really good and those sachets usually don't have much nasties.

Thanks for this, the first of your videos I have seen! The first time I tried eat for £1 a day, I decided not to include hot drinks. It went ok, but I also used a few bits of food I had in such as one egg and took it out of the allowance. My lasting memory is that I was so pleased I had enough veg left to make soup for the last meal and didn't have to eat the awful tinned budget veg soup! But I haven't been able to face tinned mushy peas since, my diet was a bit stodgy that week. I gave up the next attempt as my local supermarket had run out of cheap beans and cheap rice, and the idea of tinned carrots instead of beans failed. No veg by weight in my local supermarkets. I agree with all your reasons for doing it, and you have made more effort with cooking than I did. Inspiring! In fact, as I speak, the cheap tinned potatoes I have been meaning to use up are roasting!

this looks ok for a week at a pinch but that kind of skimpy nutrition is not sustainable health wise, i must say in the present economic crisis no one seems to be getting their 5 plus a day but this is no way enough veges in this week and its lacking in fiber even with the beans, were apples not on special ?

Brilliant effort. Love it! Well done. Did you refrigerate or freeze your creations? Sad that life has come to this for people. FFS, don’t let the government see it or everyone will have a £7 food budget. Sadly though, a lot of people do to pay rent & mortgage.

Very interesting - i love that you cook from scratch. A few years ago I started eating one High Protein meal a day - am only - my main meal consisting of :- a bowl of Root Veg' Soup, a large Salad with dressings + Cheese Fish or Meat, a slice of Olive bread or Pasta with Butter and a Dessert preferably with custard a piece of fruit & Matcha Green Tea or Rooibos Tea. Cooking once a day saves so much time and money allowing me to focus on other things. btw most people cut down to two meals a day. Eating early in the day means you utilise your food better and at night your body repairs instead of digesting an evening meal . Good luck with your endeavours ☯️♾️

In 2024 it's impossible to budget feeding yourself on £7 a week. I write specialist budget cookery books too and I am a very experienced chef living on a tight budget. Its more like £2.50 per day for cheap healthy foods. I budget by buying value products and shopping for Aldi food prices more decent than Lidl which lasts longer than lidl food. I cook in batches to eat over a course of days in my airfryer mostly. Growing your own food helps budget your food too. To feed a family of 4 I could budget it down to £17.50-£20 a week with healthy foods 3 times a day in August 2024. But you must cook from scratch everyday. All my budget cookery books include many healthy, quick and easy recipes to follow where the ingredients are easy to buy. Growing as many of your organic food is the biggest secret in managing to budget your meals cheaply. If you have no garden then grow them all in large pots by the window. This is how you survive in the cost of living crisis. I hope you buy my cookery books when they come out on the market. There is one coming out soon titled the taste of the Orient on a budget. It's about Asian fusion cuisine on a tight budget.

@@TheBudgetFoodie When you are like me, needing a specialist diet for health reasons then it is impossible to feed yourself on £1 a day. Healthy foods are always more expensive than junk food which I cannot afford to do, as I cannot be overweight, have high blood sugars or high cholesterol levels or heart disease because I am a diabetic.

Milk flour egg sugar makes pancakes/creppes. Can also add banana. Also good with rice in them. Flour egg makes pasta with some tomato +onion for sauce. Flatbread with some tomato and cheese can make a pizza. Egg milk herbs and cheese can make egg muffins. Great ideas. I really want to try similar since food is so expensive.

How about a single cheese omlette ( with one egg) for the third meal that you ran out of the beans for ? Hint. Adding a bit of water to the beaten egg (not milk ) will make it very fluffy.

Hey. Chillis need to be grow inside a greenhouse or house as they need constant regular heat. You have runners coming off your strawberry plants. Look up how to grow more strawberry plants from the runners. Im getting really fed up with how bad veg is st the moment. Im finding lots of onions, pots, leeks etc all going rotten once I cut into them. Its not on considering how expensive things are. I really check everything now..

Very imaginative. Lots of good ideas, but my priority is to avoid white flour, and use organic spelt instead. It's more expensive, but tons healthier. Maybe something for some people to consider. Brown rice too has more nutrients. I grow most of my veg and also forage, lots of lovely berries around now. Bless you ❤
