This is a great video Max. One detail that I consider significant. The HDMI device that you are suggesting to switch inexpensively between input signals is called an HDMI Switch. You call it a splitter. Your link is to the right device, but it will confuse people who might try looking for such a device on their own. A splitter will take 1 HDMI signal and split it out into multiple others.

Excellent video, Max. Much better than others on the same subject. I would have added that viewers should check if their existing camera/camcorder can connect directly to their computer before rushing out to buy a grabber, aka capture card. As you know, many cameras have firmware or free software bundled with them that can make the camera appear to the computer as a webcam. And even an 18 year old T2i has USB output. I still purchased a Pengo (using your link) because it's a more elegant solution (and a TOTU switcher using your link. But I think it should be mentioned that plugging the camera directly into the computer is often an option. (Especially when capture cards are scarce or overpriced)

It does not work with Zoom at all and Zoom support will not budge other than to only support the devices they have listed here: support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/201504265-Wired-HDMI-Screen-Share-via-Capture-Device

@@funkflow-thefeelgoodmoveme8939 Hello! Thanks for your question. I have a Canon camcorder behind me connected to a separate XLR shotgun microphone in front of me to pick up my voice. And I'm playing music from a boombox. The shotgun microphone picks up my voice and the music very clearly! So I'm sending decent video and audio to my students thanks to my microphone placement. But my biggest problem is lag when I'm watching my students. It's nearly impossible for everyone to dance together on beat due to different internet speeds, bandwidth, etc. So I have to watch the kids one-by-one. It's not ideal... but it's working. I'm also recording supplemental videos to send to students to watch on their own time. I was worried about audio... but luckily I have lots of audio and video equipment. The microphone goes into the camera and the audio/video is sent to the laptop through the Elgato HDMI capture dongle. I've learned that having an external microphone is really the key element here. And it helps if it's in front of you to pick up your voice and music. Most teachers are streaming from their phones or laptops using the tiny built-in microphones from far away. That's the biggest problem with audio. Here's a picture from my garage dance studio: i.imgur.com/5mSIhDB.jpg Let me know if you have other questions. I've been helping many of my dance teacher friends lately during these crazy times!

great video, trying to buy one of these will be harder and harder each day given that so many want todo this now. So more options are better. If you need and can find one the blackmagic atem-mini also has a usb-c output that you can present to your laptop as a webcam (same as you show) its also a video mixing table so allows you to grow a little and the price is still within reason. But again these are _all_ hard to find now so i would make a list of all these different solutions and order the one you can find.

Max you are AWESOME! Can you clarify and help? We got the Pengo and it’s fantastic. Really well-made and works great. We also got the switcher that you recommend, the Totu. The only problem we have is that when we use two cameras the way you describe and switch from one camera to the other with the switcher, there is a delay of about 1 1/2 seconds - and the camera that we are switching from freezes for that time, so instead of video when switching, we get a still shot of the last video image that lasts until the next camera comes in with the switcher. When we use the switcher to move from one camera to the other this happens. So, for livestreaming that presents a problem. Is there a way, using the 2 camera and Totu setup that you described, to eliminate the frozen image when switching between one camera and the next? We are using 2 Sony a6500 DSLR cameras, Studio 6 software, and a brand new MacBook Pro. Thanks so much! 👊🙌

I would have suggested the Camlink 4k for using a real camera as a webcam. I used my old Panasonic GX8 with it and it works flawlessly. Plus I think it's never out of stock. Then use free OBS to control transitions and video sources on the fly. It's easy. Twitch streamers to this all the time. I was doing this for my Zoom meetings until Zoom screwed it up by not permitting virtual cam (need to put the OBS output to the meeting screen) due to there horrible "Zoombombing" countermeasure. Hopefully they will fix that. Works in Teams still.

Nice, but it doesn't solve live streaming on the go. We need a similar solution without lugging around a huge laptop. This is great information. Thank you for keeping it simple. I have been looking all over for the answer to this though - what if we don't want to have our camera tied the computer with the HDMI cord? What I mean is we need to be able to walk around with the camera to a few different rooms instead of doing the entire broadcast from one desk or location. Is there a way to do that wirelesly or to maybe connect to a tablet that we could carry around with the camera as we move about the different spaces? I've seen some wireless encoders but I don't know if that is what we need and then it just starts getting super complicated! Ugh! Any thoughts on this?
