Yeah, sonar autofocus is awesome lol. I've got a spectra SE with sonar AF and a Supercolor 670 with sonar AF, it really makes a difference

Melissa L loading Polaroid 600 into Spectra cartridges is a decent fix. But getting an Impulse AF will somewhat help fill the void.

Ive seen someone add electrical tape to the rollers to get more tension but the tape leaves a ridge that makes it uneven. Im thinking if you can spray paint a few layers of paint onto the rollers it would give a “perfectly” even tension to crack the chemistry. Plastidip is probably best, its spray on plastic paint that is pretty durable and lays thicker than normal paint. Car guys use it to paint their wheels black and im sure it would be durable enough for camera use. Another bonus us that plastdip peels off as one piece and wont flake so you could cut it and pull it off like a sticker if you ever wanted to reverse the mod. Im gonna try it on my spectra whenever i can get to it

You might be onto something with the plastidip since it’s also flexible. I wonder if the uneven spread is more due to the construction of the 600 type vs Spectra. Even if you add thickness to the rollers, the thickness difference of the 600 type borders compared to the negative area remains. So what if you mask the rollers so only the center area has plastidip? Only what is necessary to cover the chemical spread path. That way the borders won’t push up on the rollers. You probably only need to paint the bottom roller, too..

@@sprkplg youre right i hadn’t thought about the border thickness. Ive been watching a lot of robertw1469 videos. Thats where i got the idea. Im sure you could mask off parts of the roller. It might take some trial and error but ill do more research. Im thinking of modifying a spectra film canister to be an adapter with a cr2 battery instead of buying an overpriced one online. That way i could just pop in an itype and hopefully have it run. Otherwise reloading film isnt too much of an issue its not like im shooting more than 32 polaroids in a day. Running instax would be a game changer though. im thinking its doable but im more of a 35mm film guy so its hard to say.

I wonder how evenly the chemicals would be spread if you just insert it like at 6:31, but turned around on the opposite site, of course. Maybe we don't need the cardboard.

MrChrodo If you just put it in like that the pick arm that pushes the film forward for ejection would naturally push it off to an angle so it would need to be attached to something to keep it straight.

@@NumaticVacuum That's interesting, because it didn't got that much pushed at all in my ProCam. However, i couldn't test it with a fresh pack of film, yet.

In my camera the pick arm doesn’t travel far enough to get the smaller Instax frame into the rollers. Also it seems somehow the camera senses if there is film at the rollers and will keep the motor going if so. Otherwise it is just a partial roll. You can try it with an empty pack, the motor doesn’t keep going as long as if there was film. I am going to make the card more like a U shape with a cutout in the middle so that the rollers can contact both sides of the Instax square frame directly. That should help the chemicals spread correctly.
