I just lapped mine earlier today. I took the chain off and used a 1 1/4” socket in a cordless drill and coarse and fine lapping compound I got for $15 that will last me 5 years. Cuts better than new now. I love the Fiskars but really want a Hudson star.

Very informative and I appreciate the goal of brevity. I've a suggestion: Remove the plastic blade guard. That makes faster work of applying and cleaning the compound.

The blades are so easily advanced and accessed, it'd just be a waste of time to remove the plastic guard and put it back on.

Been looking for an alternative to the proprietary connector for spinning the blades while sharpening. I am going to try your method. Thanks!

Yeah, agreed! That hose with clamps is a great idea. Good on him!

So the helical blades have to touch the one straight blade on the bottom in order to sharpen?

I’ve had my Fiskars for probably 7 years and for the most part it still works great. It is, however, making some strange noises when I pull the mower back. Do the rear wheels require any maintenance? I suspect that’s where the noise is emanating from.

Its so strange but my model has a tensioner on the chain. I am not sure but this is not the first time I saw it without one. It helps a lot with tensioning the chain.

I'm having a heck of a time removing the small chain sprocket. I got the little hex screw out, and the outer gear does move slightly apart from the inner shaft, but it won't slide off. I'm trying to gently rattle it as I advance the blades/shaft, but something is keeping it on.

Just had to fiddle with the blades back and forth a bit while holding the sprocket, which had gently fused itself to the shaft with all the grassy grime and grease and dust from years of use. Instead of attaching a drillbit to the little hoseclamp doohickey, I'm going to start by just using a manual crank handle. The 2-clamp hose connector is really clever though. I tried duct tape, string, elastics... no good.

Technically, the blades are not support to touch the stationary blade, just miss it. But good luck getting it to do that all the way around.

Thanks for the video! Nice work and your English is fine, haha! Do you know if you have to adjust the blade till it doesn't touch the bottom plate? Thanks!

Thanks for the compliment - sure your english is fine as well :-) Yes - I adjust the blades after the grinding proces. This can be acomplished with the use of the adjusting bolts on each side of the momentum. There are several videos on this subject for instance this one: kzitem.info/news/bejne/zaGJ23ydbKaiaag

What is at the end of the drill? What is inside the hose? What size diameter hose?
@michaelandersen709

It's just a matter of using a hose, that fits the momentum shaft :). Personally I'm using a normal gardening water hose with 11,5 mm inside diameter. I connect this with the drill via a medium size socket wrench extender (from Lidl) with 11,8 mm outside diameter. Good luck!
