A few tips: 1) Cut the strips a bit more narrow. They will wrap and lay more smoothly, with less gaps. Like maybe 3". 2) Use a fabric that has a bit of flex or stretch. Not like lycra or spandex, but at least a little if you tug on it. That flex helps a 2-d flat fabric conform to a 3-d rounded leg. 3) Use a fabric where the fibers have at least a tiny bit of soft fuzziness, if not wool, then simulating wool (which is why he used cheap felt, instead of cheap quilting muslin). The texture helps the wraps stick together, like a minimal form of velcro 4) Make it LONG enough to wrap well above the curve of your calf, all the way up to the narrow part just under your kneecap. If you stop at the calf, they will piss you off and sag all day long. Wrap them all the way up. 5) Check out Goodwill or Salvation Army thrift shops for the blankets/linens/curtains section. You can often find big pieces of neat fabric for cheap, that you can cut apart and use for different costume elements. 6) Get a sewing machine and learn how to sew. Just . . . do it. In the years to come, you will be so much more satisfied with the garb you make. Plus you will look cool, and ladies will flock to you, and other men will be shamed with envy.

Leg wraps can take most kits to the next level- even low budget ones. They can provide great padding under grieves and protection from prickly brush. For me it's a must have kit item. Great tutorial! Keep it up :).

I seriously need leg and arm wraps (my arm bracers keep on shifting so the bit of fabric will be great) so this is a wonderful way to make those things. Thanks!!!

As @James Smallwood mentioned in a comment below, those $10 harbor freight blankets are a really good source for wool also, but I've been using the felt with no issues since I made this video. Best of luck, glad it'll help you out!

Awesome! Saw one of your other videos the other day, and now I went looking for leg wrappings and BOOM there you are. So easy to make, you saved me a lot of money! So expensive if you're gonna buy these. I could literally buy a new cloak with the same amount a pair of leg wrappings would cost. Gonna go fix my own pair now, wish me luck! ^^

With felt if you use glue you can take a bristle brush or a vegetable cleaning brush and scrub where the joins are roughly in all directions and it will help join the fabric even more so and strongly. Its one way to felt an item.

Woven belting is another great option and can be grabbed on sale pretty frequently at fabric stores :) No cutting required, just seal up your ends and wrap :)

Polo wraps (used for horses) are reasonably long, come in packs of four, and the Velcro tab and easy to cancel. Also comes in a variety of colors.

I bet a better choice would be 4" strips cut from a cheap military wool surplus blanket... Thin, wool/poly blend and slightly stretchy to avoid that ugly "stepping" over the calf. Olive green or grey should be fine for a somewhat period look.. Cheers!

I did not hear how long the Scrap Felt was. IS it a Yard before you cut it?
@LarpMix
5 жыл бұрын
So mine ended up about 6 feet long in the end. So, if you want it continuous, 2 yards will do it, or you can double it up like me and glue/stitch it together. If the felt is cheap, I'd just get 2 yards and make 2-3 pair at once. However, everyone's going to be a little different, these are generally 9-12 feet long each and about 4 inches wide. But I felt mine worked fine around 6 feet. It also depends on how many time you're wrapping it and how high/low your starting, including the foot or not, etc. If you do it like on my video, 6 feet is probably an ok starting point, but you can always add or take away. I hope that helps. If they turn out good, tag me on an instagram photo or something of them.

Any tips on how to stop leg wraps from falling down? They always fall when I run!
@LarpMix
6 жыл бұрын
It depends on if your game is period authentic or not. But, make sure they are always over the thickest part of your leg, generally your calves, so make sure they are high enough up. You could also try an X style crossing when you get to your calf, basically make an X pattern and then double back, but you'll need a set long enough to accommodate this. If not period authentic, the best option would probably be to just use a clip like many do, or maybe even a few small safety pins concealed and attached to the pants, or even strategically placed velcro. Good luck with it.
@lmbehrens

I've been using safety pins but may just need to use more. I love this tutorial, though! I even managed to find over a yard of high quality felt in the remnant bin myself!
