We had a picture of our house from the sky back in like 2000 because of a door to door salesman who would take pictures of houses from above using a helicopter. Back then, something like that was kind of cool because you could never see your home from that perspective. Nowadays you can see it from using your own drone or simply just going onto Google Maps lol there was some novelty to this back in the day but I'm guessing nowadays, you really have to find the right customer

Just a note if you didn't have a FAA part 107 license you can get fined from 35k to up to 250k and if your drone weight is over 249 grams you have to register it because it's no longer considered by FAA as a "toy" mine Dji mini 2 weighs just at the 249g mark which means I don't have to register it because it's considered a "toy" to the FAA mine isn't a toy but it's considered one no problem for the info guys 😉

Part 107 is if you are profiting off the drone image, but in this scenario, you can claim that the image is not what you’re charging for, but the frame and labor (ie. photo-editing, mounting, etc) behind putting the image in the frame… This sort of thing flies legally all the time when you buy SD cards with open source software… The vendor charges you for the SD card and labor of putting the free software on the SD card, but they are not technically profiting off of the software itself…

@airadaimagery692

Your grandfather probably got the image taken from an airplane pilot. A farm is a large chunk of land. And in order to get the entire property in frame for a photo, you would have to fly way above 400 feet AGL, and this would be illegal to do with a drone. However, it is still possible to create an image of the farm by using mapping software. The drone only has to fly about 200 feet AGL, but it will be shooting a couple hundred photos that is later stitched together within the mapping software, and then later generated into a 3D model, which actually looks like one big photograph. But most drone pilots will charge way more for this since it takes way more time and expense to develop.

Don't forget that you also are required to be licensed as a commercial drone operator (part 107) for this. You cannot use a drone on a recreational license to make money (but also i feel like my guy didn't get a recreational license either... Maybe i could be wrong). You are also legally required to mark your drone with your FAA registration number on the exterior of the drone prior to flying. If you are NOT American this does not apply, though pretty much any jurisdiction has drone licensing now and some have separate licensing for commercial use. For instance, in Canada you would need to be licensed. To actually operate commercially you need to hold drone liability insurance in excess of $100kCAD as well. On site with you on all commercial flights you would need the following: proof of liability insurance, a business card with your full contact info, copy of UAV operating specs (speed, max operational wind conditions, flight times, among other things), your training cert, and a site survey needs to be performed (however you don't need to have this on hand, though it is ideal).

Here’s a little bit of knowledge lesson for y’all, I’m currently training become a private pilot and I have my drone license. The FAA actually says “Pilot Certification To operate the controls of a drone under Part 107, you need a remote pilot certificate with a small UAS rating, or be under the direct supervision of a person who holds such a certificate. You must be at least 16 years old to qualify for a remote pilot certificate, and you can obtain it in one of two ways. You may pass an initial aeronautical knowledge test at an FAA-approved knowledge testing center. If you already have a Part 61 pilot certificate, you must have completed a flight review in the previous 24 months and you must take a small UAS online training course provided by the FAA.” In order to be able to legally monetize the photos you need to have a commercial drone operators license, what does allows you to do is use them for profit based companies and or single use cases. Say if someone were to offer you 100 bucks to go take some photos for them that would not be allowed. But if you offered to take photos for someone for free and they use them in a non-commercial Way such as hanging them up then that’s fine. But if you do them for free for say a school church or an nonprofit then it’s kind of a gray area but it’s still best to have your drone operators license. But To add onto this if you took photos for someone for free and they use it in commercial way that is illegal. TLDR: The FAA sucks and what he showed in the video is illegal to do.

If it was actually a legal to do then why do they have a license so that you can do it legally like your post contradicts itself. You say you have to have a license but then you say doing it is illegal so which is it do you need a license or is it illegal contradictions are quarrelsome at best

You forgot to mention the TRUST test... Even Part 107 pilots have to take the TRUST test now as well. Dumb, but true!

Just a tip though, you legally have to have a drone piloting license. It costs about $175 to take but in order to legally make money with a drone, you have to have the license. Otherwise you can be fined about $30,000 in fines

Exactly and here on the coast, people pay professional photographers to use drones to picture their sailboats too, i’m talking thousands, and it’s always kind of been a prestigious thing because people used to get aerial photos of their homes and display them

The hard part is to actually find someone interested. In REALLY nice areas like that the home owners might call the cops if they see strangers hanging around or flying drones about. He also left out the commercial drone license that may be required to do this legally..

Hey , I love this idea but you just broke 2 laws 1 the drone you used is over 250 grams which needs to be registered 2 you need a commercial license to fly a drone to make any kind of moneu

So many better an easier side hustles that’ll make you way more money. If you know what you’re doing at least. I detail cars and make $600 a day minimum. That’s $3000 a week for something that’s done on the side and is completely tax free because it’s all under the table. One car only takes me 3-4 hours. I always do 2 cars a day, sometimes I’ll do more if I’m not busy. Ceramic coatings? I’ll make $1,200 in 8 hours . It’s not even work because I love doing it. It’s more of a hobby that I love and I’ve been doing this for the past decade. On top of reselling shoes and more. Honestly, who’s going to go and take pictures of homes with a drone on the side. Oh brother 😂

If you want to do this long term, make sure that you have a Part 107 Cert. Takes like 2 weeks of study, cost 160 for the test and you have 2hrs to do it. Not hard. This will allow you to do any commercial work, or make money in general. Editing software is around 30 bucks a month if you use Adobe’s Lightroom. Drones are 300 bucks up to 4k. DJI is a solid company. Great service. Takes about 1 month to retail all the information needed to be safe. TLDR you need about 2 months and 500-2000 to do this.

I used to use this as my main drone- Hubsan Zino (i use a DJI Mini 4 pro now) and for it's price I don't think there's much to complain about really but only problem is it's not as reliable as high end drones as well as weighing 720 grams (over 249g) which means you MUST license the drone as well as get an operators ID and flyer ID to fly it
@RRIA_America

I’d just like to add: you really should get a Part 107 License to do this. For one, it teaches about the airspace laws, & it allows you to sell photos. Technically this is a “commercial usage of a drone” which requires a FAA license.
