The airboat looks great (I've just started printing one) but your suggested power system isn't all that good. For spinning a 5" propeller on 3 or 4 cells you'd be better off looking at the motors the fpv drone flying crowd use. 2300kv and 2204 / 2206 size is a good place to start. You could get a lot more performance out of a power system like that with less weight if you selected the right parts.
@buildsomestuff

Thanks for the info! Yeah, I wasn’t too familiar with power efficiency for these types of motors. I just bought what worked for me. Hope all goes well with assembly!

@@buildsomestuff I'll give you a shout when I've got mine printed and working if I find a good power system I can definitely recommend. Could you do me a favour and tell me how much one of yours weighs built and both with and without the battery loaded please? It will help me choose the right motor. Thanks.
@buildsomestuff

@@christophertelford Certainly! It weighs 12.55 ounces without the battery and 19.35 ounces with the battery.

A quick bit of googling tells me that full sized airboats usually have a thrust to weight ratio of just under 1:1 Using 600 grams as an estimated total build weight a 2300kv motor should be capable of producing about that with 3 or 4 cells and the right 5" propeller.@@buildsomestuff

Fingers crossed for my first airboat test in a few hours. I've used a BLheli esc which can be set to neutral at the throttle mid point and then opposite directions either side of that. Hopefully my airboat will have a working reverse feature though it'll be interesting to see if the rudder works. @@buildsomestuff

I have broken the rudder servo attachement and rudder hinge twice. I am going to try and print these pieces in PETG to see if that helps reslove.

PETG should help. Where exactly did the rudder pieces break? Was it the little alignment tabs that broke off?
@TrueNorthZero

@@buildsomestuff Yeah, the "tongues". I printed in 0.12mm layer height in PLA, perhaps if I used 0.2mm as you recommended they may have held up better.
@buildsomestuff

@@TrueNorthZero Ah, possibly. If PETG doesn’t do the trick, it’s certainly ok to just pop the tabs off anyways and continue gluing without them. They’re not absolutely necessary, just there to make it a little easier to line up. Best of luck!
