"If you follow all of the steps of this video you will at the very end have your very own... ball" I cannot explain how much this sentence brings me utter satisfaction. First and foremost, it's outright and precisely true. This is a video about making a ball. Following the steps will result in making and thus having a ball. Obviously. But there is something so pure about the way it's said. Like on the one hand it's kind of humourous, because it's a long process and a ton of work to end up with just a ball at the end. It's way more expensive and way more effort than just buying a ball online. So it's a joke to say the result of all of this effort is to have your own ball. But on the other hand, it's playfully serious. This guy clearly likes balls. A lot. To him, and to anyone following these steps, the prospect of ending up with a ball at the end, is genuinely of significant value. Sure this isn't the easiest way of getting a ball. But getting a ball is genuinely something worth the effort. So the sentence is true, but also a joke, but also serious, all at the same time.

Awesome video! Looking forward to trying it out soon! Something to note for those unfamiliar with saddle stitching: the goal is to point the needle through the loop created by the previous stitch. Simply pushing the needles through the hole simultaneously does not guarantee a saddle stitch every time. That said, missing a few across the course of the ball will not impact the integrity of the ball, but may lead to marginally more dethreading should any stitches break. By draping the excess thread around the newly protruding needle, you should ensure it passes through the loop every time.

Have you ever considered skiving the edges of the panels to try and get them a little bit thinner so the seams might lay a little bit flatter? Especially on some of those designs with a ton of panels where there are tons of seams.

Bro just didn't tell us what kind of needle. There are many different kinds! Are those leather needles with the triangular tip? Sewing needles? Embroidery needles? Sharp or blunt? Which size?
@stephenwagner2688
4 ай бұрын
Hi, I've been doing leatherwork on and off for about a year now, just started making my first ball and I'm almost halfway done! I've found that leather needles are good, cause they allow for the thickness of the coated thread and are a bit stronger so you can pull them through easily, but the most important thing is making sure your holes are punched really well, cause that will allow the needle to go through easier. I've found success with both sharp and blunt, and I feel that both have their benefits. Blunt can have its benefits in that it's nearly impossible to accidentally send the needle through a part that doesn't have a hole punched yet, so that's helpful. But altogether, I don't think it matters too much and I haven't really found the best answer yet. Maybe get a Leather needle combo kit and experiment with the different types! Good luck!
