Hey Bob, another quick easy thing you can do is to frame in your bathroom mirror with the same 1x6 material. Super easy and will make the area look more custom.

I have been considering something similar for my 27 year old bathroom with 2 sinks, an 8 foot mirror, and 9 large 40 or 60 watt globe shaped incandescent bulbs. My plan was to use one of those 24" x 48" acrylic diffusers made for dropped grid ceilings under fluorescent fixtures which are available at Home Depot and other big box stores in a variety of textures, and clear or milky white translucent for $10.00-$13.00. Never thought about turning the bulbs 90 degrees and this orientation coupled with the smaller size of the LED bulbs allows the fixture to be quite narrow. Another great project.

Nice project! But I do have to point out, Lexan and Plexiglass are different things - Lexan is Polycarbonate, a tough and somewhat flexible plastic, while Plexiglass is PMMA (acrylic glass), which is much more brittle but easier to paint or glue.
@Iliketomakestuff

They are, but in this particular use case, they are interchangeable. The reason I mentioned plexi is because it would be a similar but much cheaper option.

That's a really nice Light fixture. I think it came out awesome. If I had to change one thing, it would be the top. Being open is good for venting the heat but I feel like a frosted pane of glass/Lexan would even out the light coming from both sides. LEDs don't get very hot so it shouldn't be an issue and if you made it easy to remove, replacing the bulbs would be just as easy without it.

I made this Bob it was great. There are so many ways to jazz it up. I had my garage shop rewired and they used ceramic light fixtures on the ceilings. I had extras they were $1.25 each and made perfect inside. I am a painter and I did a painted piece of hardboard for the front that can be changed any time. I got the plexi out of a cheap picture frame so it was free. I got the LED light bulbs for free from a welcome gift from our power and light company. So it was $6. I have been messing withy lighting in my art studio and I am going to do some variation of this.. Thanks.

This fixture does not meet electrical code...either NEC, or local (which usually just reciprocates NEC). There's no junction box; connections have to terminate inside a junction box. The fixture you replaced was rated for use as J-box with NM-B feeding direct into it. You mention installing this in a house for resale...that opens Pandora's box of liability for failing to meet code.

Some years ago I made one of this lamps for my toilet room too. It was way simpler, only a white frame on front and a white piece with 3 holes for bulbs. We were in a huryy, we had moved a few weeks ago to this flat and we were sick of painting and putting everything in place... and so, we forgot to put a top to the lamp. All the wires are in the open (hidden, but not covered), so they get a lot of dust. I'm going to upgrade it....... Someday..... I guess xD
