Hemp twine works on my bows. 40- 75 lb draw weight. powerful plains type bows. But your spot on for most of it.

Really? Store bought hemp twine? How many strands? Do you serve it?

@@beesmongeese2978 depends if it's the thin stuff or the larger diam. I get it at walmarts comes in natural black or brown. The larger diam. Stuff i use 1 strand per ten pounds of draw. It is 3 times longer than i need.i twist say 6 strands for a 60 pound bow all the way down the string then double it up the other way if you understand.and retwist it the other way. The real thin hemp twine is double that amount. Wish i could post a pic of the finnished string.i dont make a loop like in this video. It's a loop knot. Then on the bottom i just tie it on the bow.once i have it at the right brace i want i just slip the loop off the top nock to loosen the string. Slide it up to brace the bow.the knot dont weaken the string. I've done this same way for hemp twine, rawhide,gutt,and artificial sinew. Just with different amounts of strands. Rawhide 1/4 in. Width wet twisted one way then doubled and done the other way works for up to a 60 pound bow string too.real sinew and nettle fibres I do like shown in video. No I dont serve it. Why? I shoot a lot. A few hundred times during any given week.string seems to last as is for months worth of shooting. I.like hemp twine and nettle strings because no stretch. Everything else stretches to some degree. But you get used to that and all ya need to do is slip it completely off top nock twist a few times to get back to your brace.

@@tonykaczmarek278 I think what you're describing with the loop on one end and a knot on the other is called a flemish twist string. Do you absolutely have to have one continuous length of rawhide or can you introduce new fibers into the string as you twist?

@@beesmongeese2978 one long length. I use the neck portion of deer hide to make string from.thanks for letting me know what that's called. I never knew that. Just the way I've done it. I do real sinew and nettle fibres like in the video think it's called reverse wrap

Hello Talon I've enjoyed learning from your videos. I would like to make a bow that resembles some of the bows the Eastern Cherokee nations used where I've grown up in NC. I was using your bow making videos to gather some more knowledge. Is there anyway you could continue your videos on that subject, past the roughing out phase of the bow? Into tillering, stringing and so forth.

Can you make a string with rawhide from dog treats? People use it as a backing, but I'm more sceptical for strings as it is bleached

Sir I've watch a few of your videos and was wondering when you state the poundage of your bows is that at a 28 inch draw? I see when you snap shoot you only pull back half of your draw length. Just curious and thank you for posting.
@talonsilverhorn8041

Yes indeed! So I short draw quite a bit, so it's hard to know how much I'm actually shooting with, but I measure my bows at 28" if they draw that far.

@@talonsilverhorn8041 Thank you sir I was was just curious I've seen people mark there length were they snap shoot at then make sure the desired draw weight is at that length. My son is very interested in your type of shooting so thank you for sharing your knowledge.

do you know how to identify dog bane in the winter?
@talonsilverhorn8041
3 жыл бұрын
Identifying dogbane in the winter can usually be done by looking at the stalk and the seed pods if they have them. Dark brown stalk, and hollow fibrous branches. Though I recommend gathering dogbane just after it releases it's seeds in the fall. When it's still just a little green.
