In this 6 minute pottery tutorial, Crockd’s resident artist will show YOU how to make your own clay "heart face incense burner” in four simple steps.
We’ll start with the slab hand-building method before moulding facial features out of clay coils and joining pieces together.
All you need to get started:
- One bag of clay
- Your pottery tools
- A rolling pin or any equivalent tool
- A bowl or cup of water for your fingers
A small paint brush may also come in handy for smoothing your piece!
You can work directly on your surface, or set down a chopping board.

Wondering what to do after your piece is finished? 👇
You can air dry your pieces for 48 hours, then paint with acrylic paint for an uber cute decorative piece OR
Take them to a kiln to be fired for some ahhhmazing waterproof and food-safe creations (after 7-10 days of drying).

Hot tip! Carve your initials or a signature into the bottom of your piece so it can be identified as YOURS (especially if you’re takin it to a kiln).
