You will get better results if you take the wood boards/weight off after 24 hours (the concrete will be set by then) and place the entire pumpkin in a bucket of water to cure for a week. Concrete performs better if it is allowed to cure, rather than dry. You can also cut the sides of the pumpkin first, leaving a small amount at the top un-cut, and taping the seams. It will make it easier to de-mold later. (Also best to cut along the natural pumpkin lines)

Hi, thanks for the advice you gave on concrete. I’m trying to make a Japanese lantern, so I’ll go with concrete and not cement. What do you think of a cement sand and perlite mix? Your suggestions are welcome.

LOL I ended up spray painting them and I hated it!! I've left them outside all winter in hopes that the majority of the paint chips off. :-)
