Wow what an amazing bench. Any method of craft that doesn't include destroying one's ability to hear and doesn't send material all over the place is something I can really appreciate.

Thank you my friend 😊 I agree, but unfortunately I also need to use machines to dimension the reclaimed material I use. I love working with hand tools on this bench. It is rock solid and a dream to work on 😊 ॐ

I'm building one of these on my kitchen table as I write this (well, I paused to type, but y'know...). I love the design compared to most of the ones you can find online. One thing that would help those of us who "used to do shop class in high school" is to have a few more dimensions noted out, such as the distance of the shelf from the bottom. Even a snapshot of the finished easel with dimensions super imposed over it would be cool. Thanks for sharing this! (I'm building this one for my wife who is also an artist :) )

Thank you Richard :) I usually build most projects without using a plan or dimensions then I realised after making the video that it would be helpful for others that want to build something similar and included them in the description :) I am happy to know that you found the video useful and I would love to see the finished result. I'm sure your wife will be happy with it and get a lot of use out of it. I have a list of art projects to complete for my wife's working space and when I have the time I will video the process. Blessings ॐ

Wow thank you! I made this wee easel this morning and I am very happy with how it has turned out! I was really worried as I have to do the drilling without a vice, and I didn't measure the width depth of the hole for the dowels (just eyeballed it... Happily I'm off by 1 mm) I think also the next time I would stain/paint all pieces before assembly except the dowels. I think my next tool might be a drill press. I'm (not so patiently) waiting for the front that is glued to dry. Can't wait to paint it

I like how this can be done with mostly handwork for people who prefer that or just don't have a fully equipped shop. Since you put the captions on, I have no control over them and the light colored captions blend in with the light colored wood. Darker? It would be helpful to have the cut list stated at the beginning for those of us who have more experience and can figure it out right away and will be using a fully equipped mind and shop. Thanks!

Great project Thanks! Do you have any simple wooden box projects that are on the easier side but look really nice? We have teens who love to work with wood at our orphanage and we need easier practical projects for them to do. We can use nice little boxes to send gifts to their sponsors and they would feel really good about making them. We don't have access to lots of good lumber here in Mexico its all massivel expensive and very hard and knotty but we do have access to lots of scrap. Also we mostly use hand tools for safety and cost. Any projects you can link me to I'd really appreciuate it. Thanks so much.

That is a nice tidy job. I made a floor standing easel for my daughters round blackboard. Just an A-frame joined with glue and 2 dowels, and a leg with hinged leg. I didn't do a video of it, but put up a few other ones last week. Pop over if you have a bit of time. Thank you for subscribing.

Nice work A question: Why are the outer pieces outwards? At what angle did u make the dowel holes in outer pieces?
@TheWoodYogi
3 жыл бұрын
Thank you Yogendra 😊 The tripod design is really stable when holding a frame or painting, but it could be made using straight outer pieces. The angle is determined by how you want the easel to look. The video shows how I worked out the angle at 6:27 by using the centre pieces and measuring out from the top and bottom of the outside pieces. I hope this helps 😊 ॐ

Have you ever constructed a drawing bench (art bench/drawing horse.....several names to these things, apparently)?
@TheWoodYogi

I haven't constructed one, but I am aware of them as my wife is an artist. They are very simple in construction and I will consider designing one that has good portability and storage when I have more time :) Thank you for the suggestion ॐ

@@TheWoodYogi Awesome. Just subscribed. I'm an artist in training and I dabble in wood working (mada a shaving horse to shape walking sticks into which I carve celtic knotwork). I could manage a basic bench but would need guidance on one with an adjustable drawing surface and perhaps a side drawer for storage. If you were to post a video on any sort of drawing bench then I would watch with great interest. It would be much appreciated, too. I love youtube!

Will this size easel hold a 16x20 for painting?
@TheWoodYogi
6 жыл бұрын
Hi Melissa :) It would be strong enough to hold that size, but you may need to install an extra rail or support near to the top for the outside of the painting to rest against. Another option is to make the dimensions of the easel bigger. It would not be too difficult to work out :) Please let me know if you make one and if it works for you ॐ
