ok this was very helpful, actually one of the most useful sound design tutorials i've come across in a while! the part I especially enjoyed was that tip about being able to get that crunch just with the distortion downsample (not having to use those other methods people talk about). thanks!

Thank you! Yeah, the other methods that people use to make the crunching effect are a little unorthodox and complicated when there’s simpler methods that take way less effort and sound way better in my opinion.

@@cyberbloodaudio215 and it really seems like the unconventional methods really just point to utilizing unintentional aliasing before a stack of OTTs to bring it the forefront of the sound.

@@cyberbloodaudio215 Yeah I also have to agree with the main comment Magneon. This really is an extremely useful tutorial(even more than Barely Alive's growl tutorial).

Also a little tip if you want to get more Zeneth style variations on the Skrillex growl is use a full wet grain delay at a really low delay(like 10 ms- btw use Ableton's manual track delay to compensate for grain delay's time shifting) and make the pitch lower to get a lower formant and a bit atonal qualities.

I like how beefy it sounds, maybe a multiband distortion before the OTTs could help to add some harmonics in specific parts of the spectrum.

The steeper the filter curve the more movement will be noticed when you modulate it

Could you make a tutorial about making your own growl wavetables, or maybe something with the wavetable editor in serum? I also use pngs for my sound design, maybe that would be fun to make a video on? Just shooting some ideas

@@HemeltijdYeah sure! I was planning on making a video on wavetables anyways, however i am still perfecting my craft so it may take some time for me to make a video on wavetables 😅
