Awesome project! Thanks so much for showing all the steps clearly, as well as a list of materials needed. I sew nylon firearm & sports gear, so I have a nice walking foot Consew 206RB-2 and I knew I should make a hammock rather than buy one from China that is most likely poorly made, so this video made my day!

The second hammock is actually quilted, not pleated. Pleating involves folding fabric over itself then stitching part or all of the fold in place. Quilting is simply sewing through layers of fabric and batting.

At the beginning of the video you place the bottom screws for the weaving loom at 2 inches apart, but later when you make the spreader bar you state the holes should be 2 1/2 inches apart. My clew knot looks the same as yours but when put into my spreader bar the lines get progressively shorter from the center lines out. By the time I get to the outside my lines are about 6 inches longer than the center ones. I assume this is due to the discrepancy in the stated 2 inch distance for weaving vs the spreader boards 2 1/2 inches. I'm going to try making a new spreader with 2 inch spacing and see how it works.
@OkieBart

Tom Bartlett So here's what I've found: 1. Don't assume your fabric is actually the width it's said to be.....my "60" inch fabric was more like 58 and another was more like 57. So build your hammock FIRST, and THEN lay out your grommet holes and THEN build the clew and spreader bar based on those measured hole spacings.
@erikschmidt4604

Tom Bartlett Exactly! I found the same problem. The pallet jig in the video is 46" wide. This would be ok for a single wide hammock. This clew jig is not meant for a double hammock!
@Angel626066

Made one. The length of the new hammock must be a foot or more longer than out old hammock, because when we put it on the stand it sags down to the ground in the middle.

Thank you sailrite. Big fan. ?-how is it your needle does not stick using the baste tape? Is it the walking foot machine? I have terrible issues on my home machine using tapes.
@SailriteDIY
4 жыл бұрын
Thanks!!! Well, the fabric is rather thick, so the needle gets cleaned of glue everytime it exits and enters the fabric. If we get glue build up we use a cotton ball with alcohol on it to clean the needle.

And would a regular sewing machine do okay with the pleated hammock?
@SailriteDIY
9 жыл бұрын
If you use Sunbrella Upholstery fabric then it is likely the a home sewing machine could perform the task. To be sure, test your home sewing machine by performing this task: Take 4 to 5 layers of denim blue jean material and try sewing with a V-69 Polyester thread or equivalent. If it sews easily and leaves a good stitch you should be ok, if not consider buying a Sailrite Ultrafeed sewing machine for the job.

I know now you won’t sell the Posi-Pin system by itself if we intend to use it on sewing machines not branded by you. I’m curious if you’ll also start screening basting tape (part 129) sales, insuring that each tape roll is only to be used on your fabric? I’m not buying a brand new machine just for the Posi-Pin, but would sure give you some $ if you decided to sell it again. This may be abstract, but in business, some $ is greater than no $. At least that’s what they say. Either way, thanks for the video! I can’t hate you Sailrite. Just don’t turn into salewrong.
@SailriteDIY
4 жыл бұрын
Sailrite no longer sells the Posi-Pin bushing and nut as stand-alone parts. The Posi-Pin system was developed and patented exclusively for use on Sailrite Sewing Machines and is now only available as a standard feature on new machines or as a custom quoted upgrade, or replacement part for existing older Sailrite branded sewing machine models. (serial number and photos required). If your goal is to increase power and slow speed control on a non-Sailrite portable walking foot machine the option we recommend is the Monster II Balance wheel (www.sailrite.com/Monster-II-Balance-Wheel). It can be used with good success using a standard friction clutch, or it can be locked permanently to the shaft bushing using the included set screws. Please let us know if you have further questions.
