In this video, Maxx shows us how to make a fairy, faerie, pixie, brownie, door mouse, sprite, borrower, or whatever door. These tiny doors can bring to life the imagination of anyone and are a great addition to larps, especially medieval fantasy style ones.
This is a simple and basically free way to make a fairy door. But you could use anything you have around, even if it's just cardboard and markers. But you can also do the opposite and buy small items for doll houses, or use pieces of miniatures or small led lights, and if you have static grass or flock from other hobbies, it's perfect for this. The sky is the limit.
Because this is a "Maker's Challenge", as others create fairy doors, Maxx will add links to this video or create a playlist, so be sure to check back in a while for other fairy door ideas!
They can be interacted with to begin quests, or simply used as background ambience for immersion. Modern, post-apocalyptic and other versions of these tiny doors could be fun, depending on your setting. For example, fae aren't really found of iron, so I chose to make anything metal copper colored instead.
Of course, these are also great kids projects for school or just for decoration. They can be used inside and outside. If going outside, Maxx suggests spraying them with clear coat, so they last longer.
If you are going to permanently leave one in the nook of a tree or rocks, try backing and surrounding the door with mud or tiny stones, to really sell the idea that the door is connected, so basically fill in the gaps between the door and mounting surface. If being mounted against something flat like a wall, then just some tape will hold it flush and look great!
I look forward to seeing other's creations, and Adventure On!
