Great project mate, they look great, I did have a question though, do you know if there's much difference between using a pressure pot vs vacuum chamber?
@BensWorx
6 жыл бұрын
Thanks Mate! I found this info The official proper procedure for resin casting without air bubbles is to vacuum degas the resin after catalyzing, pour into mold, and then allow the entire mold and part to cure in a pressure pot. Hope it helps

Those came out beautiful! Thanks for sharing this video and reminding me. I have a whole bag of scrap wood pieces I need to use to do this. :) That was the plan anyway. I think I will use clear though and put little things in there that I sculpt like tiny fish etc. I also probably won't go for the jagged edge look but maybe. ;) The humidity has been a killer lately though so I have not wanted to work with resin. Worried about the outcome. Had almost 70% humidity inside this morning when I woke up. - Heidi

questions: 1. can I use food coloring in the resin or does it need to be specific types of colors? 2. can I use color in any type of resin or do some not mix well with colors and if some don't, could some types of resin give cool effect when they don't mix properly or would it just destroy the mixing process totally?
@BensWorx
6 жыл бұрын
Hi Mate, it’s best to use resin ink for coloring, but I’ve had success using acrylic paint and water based dyes, i think food coloring would work but I would suggest doing a small test piece first. Not all inks are interchangeable among different brands it’s best to stick to the same brand of ink and resin, but once again Just do a small test and check your results

Thanks for letting me know. I use pressure for just about everything I cast regardless of the working time of the resin since I have pressure pots, and I haven't really done a test comparing some of the slower setting resins with and without pressure before. Looks like it's definitely worth pressurizing to ensure those bubbles are gone =D

Hi, some people can be allergic to resin when it comes in contact with their skin, the best advice i can give is to wear gloves when pouring and mixing and a mask when sanding, i always have a cup that I pour leftover resin in, over time it fills up and I make something with it. Hope this helps

Hi Mate, Maybe try a toothpick and work the bubbles out, alternatively you’ll need to use a pressure pot to eliminate all the bubbles

A vacuum chamber sucks air out while a pressure pot pressurized the air to "crush" the air bubbles. I use my vacuum chamber with a special resin to stabilize very dry wood, such as cholla cactus, before working with it.
