You need to be using flux core wire. That will give you the gas you presently don't have. Set your wire speed on 5 and adjust from there. Use both hands. Your wire needs to be negative, your clamp positive. You definitely have the gift of making something from nothing. As an electrician I recognized the lamp part instantly.

Nice attempt at making the arc welder run flux core mig. Just a few ideas to help you: 1. The spool could be lowered so there's no bend when going into the feeder. 2. The spool housing could be taller to support the larger wheels. As for welding technique: 1. Turn the feed rate really slow. 2. Only allow maybe a centimeter to stick out 3. Keep a short distance to the metal piece to be welded without touching the tip. 4. As AKA Wireguy said, use flux core wire, and 5. Use tip negative, clamp positive.. Other than that you're on to something great! Thanks for the inspiration to do more with my MMA welder. :)

i would recommend to buy a metal wire feed assy. because the plastic ones use plastic gears that arent as durable. also you can use a cheap power supply to drive the unit . just make sure it can put out enough current to drive the wire feed motor. 2 amps is typical and a lot of these cheap power supply units only put out only around 1 amp so you cant use them. 12 or 24 volts dc.

cool skills, get an inexpensive welding hood (it will help you see where you are welding)and stay on your puddle a bit longer. can you build a lightweight battery pack to power a 120v mig welder, it has to have I think a minimum 2760watts. I think your the only video on you tube that has succeeded on a home made welder , thank you for sharing. wire guy is right get flux core wire unless your planning on adding shielding gas to your project.

thats the same stick welder i have. convert it to mig. use a 24 volt dc 2 amp power supply to feed power to the wire feed motor. get a small gas tank for gas: argon or co2. later add on a small oxygen tank. many types of wire feeders are available now

Practice on a sheet of steel. Draw lines slowly. Dragging if it’s coreflux. Keep the nozzle on. Nice job.

Those plastic wire feeders have Nylon gear and chew out buy a all-metal but need to be insulated and the unit is alive.

Hi, MMA machine works with 60 VDC and MIG works between 12 to 25 VDC. You cannont make MMA machine likes MIG.

Bruh. It didn’t work because. It need a flux to protect those arc and Sparks. While the gas keeps the arc constant and steady to weld. This project will only fuse the wire and spread around the spark. Although it’ll spot weld on few projects. And if you’ll connect inlet to the Pipe of gas I’m sure it’ll weld fine like a Mig. I really like the process of making this Project. Also loved the technique and idea of making this. But the Gas or Flux or something which can make the Arc and heat stable and contain is a must to melt the Wire on the Tip. Also try a Tungsten tip.

it won't work as it should, because basically MMA (SMAW) welding requires constant current while MIG/MAG ( GMAW ) requires constant voltage, the machine has a different way of working, you're just wasting your money and time
