*Note of Rogues;* If you want to do a Stealth playthrough, it can be worth it to mix in Conjuration, as a high enough base Conjuration will allow you to start with the Bound Dagger spell, immediately giving you access to a decently strong weapon. Later on, Command spells are very abusable, Turn Undead can make it easier to loot tombs, and any summoned creature is, obviously, going to help keep you out of a straight-up fight.

I've tried so many times to play as a sneaky, purely stealth-oriented character. My last try was some kind of ninja roleplay - basically, I found most ninja-like armor and used exclusively tantos and wakizashis for melee weapons and throwing stars for ranged. It was miserable. On early levels stealth just straight up doesn't work. And on higher levels doesn't matter that much. So in the end I trained unarmored, got naked, took daedric dai-katana and cleared out all daedric ruins and red mountain fortresses. I also want to note that in vanilla Morrwind without patches hand-to-hand skill doesn't use Strength for damage. But even with damage from strength, with 100 HTH and 100 Strenght, every enemy will be a chore to kill.

My favorite build is just a straight up Mage Killer. Just use a standard heavy armored warrior Nord with the Atronach Birth Sign. After that I go out and get a bunch of Artifacts, really just 3 with one being optional. Like the Ring of Phynaster, Denstagmers Ring, & the Dragonbone Cuirass. I have 100% Frost Resistance because your a Nord, 50& Shock Resistance from being a Nord & the other 50% from both rings. And then a 100% resistance from the Dragonbone Cuirass. You also have 50 Spell absorption which you can either enchant for the rest or use items like the Staff of Magnus to make up the rest, but this item is completely optional and you are still a beast without it. It is awesome basically just eating or resisting most the spell in the game. You could also instead of being a true warrior be a battle mage type character to do all this and still cast spells, which would make it easier it get the Dragonbone Cuirass. So you deal heavy damage, resist a ton of damage, can cast spells if you so chose, and resist or gain from other spell casters or enchanted items. Its really just the best build in my opinion. The only problem is how many skills you have to balance if you decide to play as a Battlemage and the fact that you have to search for the Artifacts needed to make this build OP at early-ish levels. Still my favorite though because I am pretty seasoned at Morrowind.

17:34 The Lord gives a spell, not a power, so it can be used more than once per day to restore health. Contrast to The Ritual which IS a power. It's not necessarily worse in every way if you have to heal multiple times in a single day. The Lord can be better in the very early game because of this, although The Ritual is much better after you acquire other methods of restoring health quickly, because of the Turn Undead spells and the fact that it doesn't come with a huge debuff when fighting against fire.

This is a nice guide but I think that Morrowind is pretty flawed in terms of character archetypes. Magic is overpowered. Enchanted items and artifacts are overpowered. Stealth is kinda pointless. After 20 years of people modding this game, a mod adding NPCs in the census office to explain all of this (and not picking your race before that point) would be pretty awesome. Unlike Oblivion and Skyrim, the guards at the start of Morrowind are relatively friendly and peaceful (as in not being attacked or trying to kill you), so it's not as far-fetched that a few dudes would be standing around with such immensely relevant info. 🤭 But this was from an era when gamers could be reasonably expected able to read an instruction book which comes with the game. The GOG version also comes with the strategy guide, I believe. Edit: although the UESP wiki is probably the most up-to-date and complete guide, short of using the construction kit and reading the code directly.

Choose Endurance as an attribute and "The Lady" birth sign, which will boost it higher. That way, running won't wear you down. For weapons, choose whatever you want, but don't leave out Short Sword and Blunt Weapon because you will need them in the Heart Chamber. For skills, choose whatever you want, but don't leave out Destruction and Restoration. Make sure your choices are balanced because a Warrior will have to do magic at times, and a Mage will have to fight at times, so you're not doing yourself a favor by concentrating on one aspect to the detriment of the other. I used to turn up my nose at Mage stuff, and when it came to advancement in the Mage Guild or in House Telvanni, I had a hard time making up for it.

That's one of the things that's so cool about Morrowind, in that you putting a magic skill in your class gives extra spells. If you decide to throw in conjuration, you can summon a bound dagger, so even if you aren't good with dagger, the damage per hit will make for it for basic wildlife, AND it damages ghosts. Therefore, you can use this to accumulate enough money for a decent weapon or a spell to summon one of your class. But you wouldn't know that immediately, so it rewards multiple playthroughs and experience. I love that. The best part about Morrowind is discovering how the game works for yourself.

Btw if you want to break the game ASAP just make a character with mild stealth ability/alteration and look run to the Redoran quarter in Vivec. There you can actually find a key to the House Redoran vault I believe in a dresser in a nobles apartment. Basically you can get full ebony armor, included some enchanted, glass weapons, enchanted stuff and thousands of gold. Stealing the key and gaining access to the vault can take some doing but not much. Honestly I really wish there was a mod that fixes this as it really does kind of break the game and is part of why I have a hard time enjoying this game now. Granted I haven’t done this since I played the game on a hard disc over 15 years ago but I imagine it’s Till there. Oh and there is also a random enemy you can encounter near the start of the game (pretty sure she’s on the Gold Coast) with a ring with chameleon I think it was 75% which basically makes you invisible. Basically there is a person who asks for help and when you do her friend jumps you with this invisibility ring. This thing is busted. You should be able to look up “chameleon ring” relative to the game. High chameleon essentially also trivializes the game with stealth. ENJOY YOUR RUINED GAME.

Restoration is really the only magic skill I'd ever recommend taking, due to cure disease and the like. Magic skills increase based on amounts of casts, not magicka spent, so it's insanely tedious to grind them to good levels, and ultimately pointless. By the time you have a 60 in destruction, or alteration, or whatever, you're already finding rings and amulets that can cast those spells with no magicka cost and way better than you ever could (They can't fail to cast, and they cast instantly - no casting animation). People aren't kidding when they say enchantments are OP in this game - they're so OP they make a mage build actually irrelevant. My pure warrior can cast all the same if not better spells than a pure mage build using enchantments, so the skills themselves actually become pointless wastes of major/minor slots. And I'm not even talking about using enchanted items exploits, just with the 'intended' system. I've grinded destruction to 100 before, it involved making a 1 mana cost destruction spell and sitting in a room casting over and over for hours. It was not even close to worth it, even as a Breton with 200 INT I might be able to cast a big spell once or twice. If that sounds appealing for maxing out your character then by all means, go for it, but I'm telling you it isn't worth it when enchantments will always cast better spells than you can (and just for soul charge, which recharges on its own over time in Morrowind). Any spell you can buy, I can make an enchanted item out of it - and sure it costs septims, but money is virtually useless in Morrowind outside of training or making enchanted items anyway.

I know im a year late and Im sure people have pointed this out already, but: 17:39 The lord's healing is a spell, not a power! As such, it uses magicka but can otherwise be used as many times as you want! And spells you gain from race or birth sign always has a 100% success chance! That weakness to fire still hurts, though. I can only really see the lord being any useful on a Dunmer (since they resist fire) with no restoration or alchemical skills to heal themselves.

Two big missing parts from the video: 1) Major, Minor and Specialisation Skills not only start higher, but also level faster - and quite substantially so. Misc Skill - 125 experience needed Minor Skill - 100 experience needed Major Skill - 75 experience needed Misc Skill within specialisation - 1.25*0,8 => 100 experience needed Minor Skill within specialisation - 1*0.8 => 80 experience needed Major Skill within specialisation - 0.75*0.8 => 60 experience needed (There are 9 skills within specialisation) 2) Bow and Dagger damage from the Stealth specialisation scales with the Strength (0 strenght = base damage, 50 strength = 2x damage, 100 strength = 3x damage, so getting some strength as a Stealth character may be benefitial (especially considering that you may be lacking Strength progression through your level ups.

Any physical damage calculation includes STR, why mention bow and dagger damage specifically? Truth is-it’s much, much easier to substitute lack of strength than lack of agility, therefore AGI is still a more beneficial combat stat.
@MajkaSrajka

@@max7971 I mention bow and dagger specifically, because even if you are building archer or assasin, you should still get strength, or maybe even arguably prioritize it over agility; and because many of the modern games actually have dagger/bow damage scale damage with Agility, often better than Strength, and because Morrowind doesn't show its math so people may not know how important it is. Agility sounds good on paper - "Im missing so Agility will make me hit more", but its effect is very small. Agility gives you 1% chance to hit per 5 agility, Weapon Skill gives you 1% per 1 Weapon Skill. You can literally substitute 5 Agility with 1 Weapon skill, or 50 Agility with 10 Weapon Skill (hit-chance wise) to reach the same effect. If you use your main weapon a lot, you could get +4 or 5 Weapon Skill per level, getting 4-5% hit chance and then dump +5 into Agility to effectively gain only +1% to hit from it. In 5 levels you will feel way stronger and hitting much more, but not thanks to that extra 25 Agility (5%) but thanks to 20-30 Weapon Skill (20-30% chance to hit). The starting, "+10% weapon skill" from your race will give you as much chance to hit as 50 Agility, meanwhile comparatively a 50 Strength will increase my damage by 50% (from 200% to 300%). IMO 10% chance to hit will always lose with 50% more damage. Proper fatigue management has an effect few times stronger than Agility. Not to mention that hit chance works on "price is right rules", meaning any hit chance over 100% doesn't do anything - you still land the hit and deal same damage, meaning that from the about 60 weapon skill forwards you could start getting diminishing returns as you get to land all or at least vast majority of your full-fatigue hits anyway. "The Warrior" birthsign that fortifies attack by 10% in fact increases your chance to hit by 10%, which is as much hit chance as 50 Agility (and it doesnt fall off, you can end up with both full agility AND +10 chance to hit from the warrior on top of that, which is way better deal than +25 starting agility). On the side note, willpower is even more awful to boost Spell chance, as each Spellcasting Skill point increases chance to cast a spell by 2%, and Willpower only 1% per 5 Willpower, meaning going from 50 Willpower to 100 will have same effect as 5 Spellschool skill lol. The only reason it can be argued that Str can be substituted easier than Agi is because Sujimma drink is broken beyond measure and if it actually was a potion o ra scroll that used a formula for it cost it would cost high-hundreds or thousand+,or because of "here is how to find daedric weapon at level 1" guides that give you 3x more damage - both make game a joke and a cakewalk at which point it is not worth arguing what is better as at that point you can pretty much complete the game at level one, and we may at this point argue the alchemy loop or crafting spells with costs so high they cause int overflow so the cost 1 mana again.

I don't advise min maxing, but I woukd recommend putting your main weapon skill as a minor skill. Its too easy to over level with it in major skills. Even without min maxing, that will help with bonuses for endurance, and with it being minor it should still be usable.

My first playthrough sucked due to picking the archer class. If you don't like to use your brain in scrolls games (like me) I restarted and picked longblade and had a great time. Incase this video didn't make it clear, you don't need to build any OP spells or potions, you can play the game purely by exploring and buying enchanted items and scrolls. My life improved after finding a Toad ring which allowed me to jump super far, a necklace that shoots paralysis magic and I think a Thong(?) that heals all of my health. All of this cool magic crap can be yours all while playing a sword wielding moron. Play the game, explore, read, get your stats molested by bonewalkers, and enjoy this wild little island

I made a hand-to-hand only character once, it was both incredibly painful and amusing, its super inefficient at first to the point you'll fall down long before your enemy does more often than not, but after a while nothing can endure the constant barrage of fist, beating Dagoth Ur, Vivec and company up felt cathartic. But boy are you in a world of pain when you meet your first bonewalker... If you thought they were awful on a normal character, imagine when you're entirely dependent on your stamina to do damage...

The only drawback to min/maxing for low level like this is you are capping your maximum potential level. Your maximum level is determined by your major and minor skills, once all of those reach level 100, you have reached your maximum possible level. This in effect influences your maximum possible health. Having more potential levels means you can get more health. The reverse of min/maxing for early game can maximize the potential of a characters max level. By only picking skills your race doesn't gain bonuses to you can reach around level 78. Having so many levels allows you to max out every attribute, and even have levels left over to dump into luck. The drawback to this approach is turning the early game into a nightmare of grind, you'll end up with a character so useless the prospect of adventuring to get money for training is probably not going to happen. I made a character like this years ago, and remember fondly the time I spent afk, leaving a scrib to scratch my character in heavy/medium armour they had no idea how to use, until I could max my endurance out. Leveling like this isn't worth it, just listen to Partician and enjoy the game, even with a lower max level you'll end up so overpowered by your max level it won't really matter if you're missing out on 20+ levels of potential. And there are exploits to lower your skills, and level forever if it matters that much.

Thanks to this video, i need to check out for myself that build for Redguard-weapon summoner build I have already tried many straight forward hybrids and some agile builds (i can't really recommend agile fighters since if you don't come prepared with paralysis stuff it kinda sucks in expansions, though its enough to carry you through normal game) (ofc playing on higher difficulty since it's easier to lvl up and equipment actually breaks sometimes)

My favorite playstyle is short blades, enchanting, mercantile, and a bit of restoration to make enchanting more consistent. Spellcasting is fantastic but enchanting does the same thing better 90% of the time with every flavor of magic. Havng an inventory of 30 custom gadget rings to throw out heaps of magic is really satisfying. Short blade has fantastic weapon choices, is the best for quickly applying strike magic, and op at stunlocking with attack spam. Money is your lifeblood and 10g bribery is more consistent than speechcraft. Combine them all to have access to just about everything morrowind can provide. Light armor is the best defensive skill for my money, though as I've gotten better at the game, I've invested in armor generally less and less. Offense is the best defense in this game.

Morrowind is easily breakable--it's fun, but the world is worth exploring as the developers intended. For this reason, I highly recommend overhaul mods like Morrowind Rebirth, which rebalances the game so it's not as easily broken and turning on enchant cooldown using the Morrowind code patch. There is a deep, complex, rewarding, scary, interesting, thought-provoking game and it doesn't deserve to be broken using the alchemy system or cheesing past high level enemies to get powerful gear early. Morrowind Rebirth fixes a lot of these issues while also added to world detail and adds several surprises and artifacts. Be warned, some key gear in the game has been moved for balance reasons.

It doesn't matter what playstyle you choose because the game "doth provide" if you make a pure warrior character, sure your mana is low, but if you use a trainer, magic items and raise your Intelligence you can be a decent mage. Also magic solves all problems, Run slowly? Magic! Can't unlock a chest? Magic! need to get to the other side of the island without a silt strider? You guessed it, Magic! 1st Rule of Morrowind: Always train and use magic, even if you're a dumb warrior.

Mh, yeah, somehow I most often end up with what I call the ultimate powergamer character: Breton, magic specialized, Atronach sign, pick M&Ms from the skills you have no inherent bonus and end up with a lv 78 juggernaut. Some Questrewards like the saviours hide and other tidbits, have an enchanter craft you some jewelery with perma-restore fatigue, a few pieces of perma-fortify Int (choose 1-X and keep re-equipping until you hit a good max number) to increase your magicka pool and you have a truly terrifying character.... That is, by nature, absolutely boring to play, as you pulverize even the strongest daedra in 1-hit. Yes, I know of the [ability drain & retrain] trick to level even further, but cranking powerleveling to 12 (I consider this char powergaming 11) isn't going to make any real difference, when you're already nigh unkillable and erase any enemy from the history in a single poke of your mighty spear.

Having spamable destruction spells is fantastic, and being able to recharge that quickly is great too. There's almost no magic school you could dabble in that you can't find an item for. Save your skill slots for skills and replace all magic with enchant. Ez peezy.
