Thank you for watching and all the very best.
In this video, Louise teaches you how to make a lovely, beautifully finished concertina art book using abstract painting in acrylics on watercolour paper.
The methods used to paint the abstract in acrylic are on a separate video.
Louise used pre-scored cut and scored cards that you can buy very cheaply from discount stores and inexpensive craft supplies. The card is 130gsm.
The watercolour paper used is 140gsm.
The cards are glued together to make the concertina and then the abstract painting is applied to the concertina and folded over to the outer side to make a lovely finish that is then covered in applied painted wallpaper.
A front and back cover is made from a leftover mount card (a thick card that is glued together to make a double layer) and a toggle/button is fixed to the front cover. Silk yarn is attached to the rear cover so that the book can be fixed closed when not on display.
You will need
6 x 6-inch card stock
PVA glue, the ph neutral bookbinding glue is preferable but others will do.
The bookbinding glue is more expensive but it has properties that make the process easier. It dries flat and it also sticks down quickly. All PVA glue is ph neutral but some have a tendency to become brittle with age and some are more tricky to use as they do not become tacky very quickly and you struggle to stick the papers down.
We would recommend that you make a trial book first using cheaper paper and glue and then invest in good materials. It is really worth the investment as the finished product is a little jewel of a book.
Applicators for the glue
Ruler
Scissors
Bone folder, Louise uses the blunt end of a teaspoon handle and this scores perfectly well, but she has now invested in a bone folder.
Watercolour paper
Acrylics
Thickish card for the cover, this can be glued together in two layers to make it firmer and more durable.
Toggle or button
Durable thread/yarn/ribbon to tie up the book for safekeeping.
Wallpaper or other paper for the outer side of the book,
