Thank you so much for sharing the simplicity of this task, I have so many tiles that look just like what you have on your patio, and it's time to have some fun... :0] ... I needed a refresher course and this is the one... thanks again..! BTW... I LOVE your patio.

I would have liked to have seen a prequel: clearing/razing the space, how to get it flat and level, and then - if it's just dirt - do you need to lay some sort of sub-floor/protection? I mean, I don't suppose you can just cement your tiles to the dirt (!?) These are really the parts of the project that need a tutorial.

I would love to do this but my only concern is all the different heights of the tiles and broken plates that would maybe make it difficult to walk on or a put furniture on. How to you get around that?

so inspiring! Sooooo going to do this on our new porch bh. i noticed you weren't wearing a protective mask when you mixed the grout. You should- pretty dangerous powders we don't want to inhale. blessings, Aviva

Thank you are being clear and on point with your video . Several videos I have watched did also mention the grout holds the tiles in place after the adhesive does it job the grout finishes off the project in more ways then one . I get it as I have laid many tiled floors . Thanks for keeping it simple .

Correction: Grout DOES NOT stabilize the tiles (much). Thinset is the adhesive. If installed properly, your tiles will be stable because of the thinset mortar and NOT the grout. Some types of grout, such as epoxy, do add some stability but please do not rely on grout for stability. If that were the case, you would be able to skip the thinset step.

both ceramic edge and especially mirror glass will have sharp edges! I would strongly suggest wet sand ALL edges before cementing in place!

In Most of the pottery I can see around me, the material has a curvature. Still can't figure out where to get flat pieces.

Don't you need a certain type of cement for outdoors? What about inside, do I use the same cement? I wanted to do a granite tile scraps floor in my bathroom.

TearzOfTirzah There is a specific mixture that they sell at hardware stores for laying down tile. I wouldn’t use cement just because if you end up not liking it in the future or if you sell the house it will be very difficult to remove.

I have spent many hours dreaming of a mosaic patio under my table and chairs that sit to the right of my lawn in my backyard. Is there a chance that you might be able to answer some questions for me??? I live in SF Bay Area.

Take note that that bag of mortar says ‘speedset’. (1:00) It sets up faster than regular thin-set mortar. You also have to work a little faster if it’s mixed right.

I think it would be better to have some kind of design to work from…otherwise it just looks like random broken pieces of tile and trash like you see in degraded wasteland areas of the inner cities..also, broken tiles expose razor sharp edges of the glaze that may not sink below the grout and I wouldn’t want to walk on that barefooted at all! 💀
