UK Health and Safety regulations say that a circular saw used for rip cutting should have a riving knife within 8mm of the blade. Most modern saws don't have one as standard because they are generally used on sites for cross cutting, it stops them doing plunge cuts and most importantly it adds a few pennies to their manufacturing costs. However, they are often available as add-ons. I made my table saw using a Bosch and the riving knife was well worth buying. It just feels much safer! I also made a safety switch that I have to poke my finger through a hole to turn ON but can turn OFF with my knee from where I stand.

You did the right thing. I have this test table saw, soon I will make another one with a shutdown button like yours.

Nice build. My only concern is the distance between the end of the blade and the riving knife. Makita has circular saws with a riving knife, which moves with the blade. That model is way safer.

Hello. Unfortunately, my saw model did not have a riving knife, so I had to make it myself.

А такая здоровенная каретка удобна-ли? Не слишком длинная? Кстати, если есть возможность, достать HPL панели, каретку лучше из него. Он жёстче, чем ДСП. И его не ведёт от сырости. И скользит, как падла.
@mr.IQhomemadeDIY

Каретку хотелось бы ещё длиннее, но ширина столешницы не позволяет. Я бы советовал делать ширину столешницы хотя бы 1200-1300 мм. А не такую как у меня 800

Or, may you get rich and do good, and then you have no issues buying even the one that is better than a sawstop, that would stop before touching it without breaking the stop mechanism 😎 or leave the states 😅

Warning :: I HAVE ALREADY TRIED TWO OF THESE. AFTER PUSHING AND CUTTING A PILE OF WOOD, THE PLATE OF THE SAW VIBRATES INTO THE RECESSED AREA IN BACK AND FRONT. THIS WAS A DEGREE EACH WAY WHICH TAKING TO THE LENGTH OF THE TABLE ADDED UP TO 1/8 INCH. SO I BOUGHT A RYOBI AND CUT THE LEGS OFF, RECESSED IT IN A FULL SHEET OF MDF, PROBLEM SOLVED.

The cutting height is 5 cm. It is quite enough for cutting chipboard and plywood.
