I was just thinking about doing this with my B6100 and lo and behold someone has already done it. I'm going to use the Agri-fab smartlink platform and modify it into a three point system so that the one attachment can do both aerating and dethatching in one tool.

So I have a question about the tires Mr Ritter... I just made a deal to get the Kubota BX23 & all the bells and whistles that come with it... While I have seen some videos saying the industrial tires don't rip up your grass, I would like you opinion on them please? Should I make the switch to turf tires before its too late or will the industrial/bar tires work ok and NOT rip up my lawn? Thanks for your answer in advance.
@ritterjon

This is going to depend on your soil conditions, if your soil has a lot of clay and takes awhile to dry out after rain, turf tires would be best. However if it drains well industrial tires will work just fine. Keep on tractoring!!

Does the BX23s fit in your garage without having to modify the roll bar?
@ritterjon

Yes it does, I have an 8 foot garage door. The ROPS does fold down however. Keep on tractoring!!

@@ritterjon What is the ROPS? Also, I measured a standard BX model and it measures 83" however I believe the BX23s is over 84". Is that correct? Thank you for your help.
@ritterjon

ROPS stands for Roll Over Protection System. (the roll bar for the tractor) the BX23S is probably a little high than a BX2380 because of additional clearance for backhoe use but I’m not certain. Keep on tractoring!

Found the stat in the book. The BX23S is 86.2 inches high. The BX 2380 is 83.1 inches and the BX 1880 is 81.9 inches high.

Great video and modifications! I would like to do something similar. Do you know if the model number of the Titan? I’ve only seen the ones with the receiver.
@ritterjon

I couldn't find the model number, but I have a better idea for you. Instead of doing what I did, somehow use a receiver hitch and make it easier to store and more versatile. Now that I just thought of that idea I might change my whole setup. :-) Glad we had this conversation. Keep on tractoring!

That's exactly what I did, 3 point receiver hitch for dethatcher and other devices such as aerator and jd electric seeder!

I was thinking about doing this with a tow behind aerator. I have to cross over sidewalks and driveways and the aerator would destroy them. Just pick it up with the 3 pt hitch and put back down. I’m gonna try to make one without the need for the 3 pt hitch part and save more money!
@ritterjon
5 жыл бұрын
I think the hitch itself is going to make it a lot easier for you. Hope to see some pictures of what you come up with. The sidewalk issue was the exact reason why I came up with this instead. Keep on tractoring!!

Good idea, now all you need to do is mount a hitch behind the thatcher to pull the lawn rake behind. I did that behind my BX a few weeks ago and worked awesome! Are you up in St Joseph?
@ritterjon
5 жыл бұрын
That's not a bad idea, I'm bursting at the seams with storage issues though so I need to be careful of what I acquire. I don't think a lawn rake is going to make my priority list. A yes, what clue tipped you off? Keep on tractoring!

Jon, the tines being mounted on a spring, I guess they don't accumulate debris? They seem to work just fine! And having it mounted on the 3pt, they work in the tractor's tracks when you turn... Thanks for sharing the idea! That will be a good one for my Bolens!

I've found that it will rake small branches but does a great job getting thatch out of the grass. I don't try very hard keeping my lawn pristine like a golf course but I try and keep the weeds at bay. I don't bother watering my lawn either so I leave that to mother nature. I'm guessing you have a snow pile update coming later today. I'm looking forward to it. Keep on tractoring!

I think your referring to an aerator. I usually find a used one on Facebook marketplace each year. I use it a few times and then sell it again to get my money back instead of storing it. Kind of like a free rental. Keep on tractoring!

matt barker - For what it's worth in this line of garden implements. There's several pieces of (cheap) equipment. The video shows the detatcher, readily available are also the aerator, disk arrow, chain arrow, plows, sweeper with collection bag, seeder, rake... For the time being I just have a similar dethatcher and the seeder. Both adapted to the 3 pt. Considering they're amateur grade garden tools. They're absolutely awesome and once more, cheap! ;-)

What is that suppose to do for your yard?
@ritterjon
5 жыл бұрын
It’s suppose to pull up all the dead grass called thatch from around the roots of new grass coming in. In theory it strengthens the roots of grass and prevents weeds somehow. I’ve actually seen a difference so I’m sticking with it. I only dethatch about once or twice a month. Keep on tractoring!

Nice video Jon. I dethatched last weekend with the Kommander and a pull behind dethatcher and it took a loooooong time. Doing 3 1/2 acres now is a bit different than what I was used to before. The new one might be done this week

Jon!!! Been watching you for a a few months now. Your videos helped me make my decision on my new BX2380. I have been trying to figure out some 3 point attachments I can do that I can do myself. That’s great. Seems to do the job perfect and don’t have to worry about backing into tight corners and around trees

I hope you’re happy with the BX2380. Kubota has a great reputation. The dethatcher system I came up with really does work well. Works great if you have to cross a driveway or sidewalk as well. Make backing up a cinch! Thanks for watching! Keep on tractoring!!
