Thank you so much for this video! I've had a sailrite LSZ sewing machine for several years that I used for repairs on our sailboat. We no longer have the boat but have found many uses for my sewing machine. I made your warm window covers and recently completed a windshield cover using Eversoft fabric from Sailrite for our Ford Transit campervan. Since I already had a swing away binder I bound the edges & sewed magnets into the binding. Between the warm window covers & the windshield cover the van doesn't get too hot. Thank you for making these videos!

@barbaracade7785

Hi Debbie, the answer is no we are not obsessed. They are useful to have but not dealbreakers if not available. Our issue tends be size. Vehicle cup holders are on the European size, ie tiny and won’t fit most drink bottles which are American sized. Cup holders are good for coins and lip gloss storage!

I did something similar to this 20 yrs ago. We camped alot with the mini van and I needed screens. I got black wedding Vail fabric. Love this idea! What's to keep an intruder (or thief) from just pulling this off? With only the magnets holding it in place on the outside of the van? Perhaps some tabs that extend out from the screen into the van, so that the door will close on them would secure it _giving it an inside hold that can't be pulled off?? I just bet also that you could design such a screen that would fit to the INSIDE of the van windows, maybe installed with snap ons, or velcro.. hmmmm! Love that fabric! Can't wait to see what you and brother come up with! Something fantastic, For sure!! Yay! 😊.

Mesh panels applied to inside to keep sun off you or others even cars, not for windshield, then I SAW A TRUCK driver on DR OZ few years ago, they only showed the LEFT SIDE OF FACE, people had to guess how old he was most guessed 90+, then showed his RIGHT SIDE, they guessed 40 , he was 45years old the sun destroyed his left side, then other truckers said he needed that panel,,I mentioned don t know if it’s plastic, or metal, but it’ shades but you can see out, Safe travels. Your cover looks very nice. A possible option for those wanting protection from the sun coming through the windshield on the cheap are the covers most often sold as windshield snow covers. On Amazon you can find some made by a variety of vendors such as Laptom, Chanvi, and Freelong. They won't fit as well since they are made to fit a variety of vehicles and will generally only cover the windshield, not the side windows. And you won't be able to see through them from inside, but some of them are under $20 and are reasonably easy to put on. When will you be in Spokane? I currently live in Spokane and would enjoy seeing your van modes in person if you have the time and can show you what we have done with our van if you are interested.

Hi Debbie, I am from Canada and enjoy your videos more and more. Simple, friendly and your not trying to impress anyone. I also like to make my own equipment when it is worth it. I have been working on a mosquito net for the inside of the two front doors. Inside beçause I want to stay stealth. Works well but having to insert the bottom part, (there is no metal) I am not quite satisfied with the strap I have sewed in. Do you think this material would do the job for mosquitoes? Even the smallest one we have here called « brulot » that are very tiny. It would also reduce the light entering in and I think it would hold itself better with magnets around the inside of the doors. I might had a bit of plastic at the bottom to insert in the part of the car. I like the idea of still being able to look out, keep the heat out and the insects out. Beleive me the insects are quite something in Quebec. I have a small Nissan NV200 (looks like the Recon Camper) so I really have to open the windows a bit for the air to circulates with the small ceiling fan. So, do you think the air would go thru and that this material would do the job? (Excuse the english mistakes, I am french)

Hey! Just watched the DIY windshield screen video. Gotta have it! Please count me in as one of your first sales. If you decide not to do this, could you refer us to another website (Other than Sportsmobile) for purchase? We just sold our 2016 Ascent for a larger unit with a dry bath. Much of the comfort in our Ascent was due to things we learned watching your videos. I cannot thank you enough. Now... would you consider buying a little bigger RV; maybe a Sprinter 3500 series so we can learn more about our rig through your adventures? ;-) Not kidding, but know this is wishful thinking. I would gladly pay a subscription fee to a channel that helped me know my RV better, just like you did for the Ascent.

LOL. I think we're in shorty for awhile. If I hear of other companies that make windshield covers, I'll mention it. So far it is working great and I have ordered some of the materials I will need as I experiment with fabrics my brother has sent me. I plan on going forward, at least with a small quantity to see how it goes. Only thing though, if you have a brand new chassis, I know there was a body change so I will have to find a rig I can test it on. If all goes well with our model, I will consider expanding to others.

@@FromShetoMe Sorry. Should have been more specific. We bought used; another 2016 Sprinter, but the 3500 chassis. Should be same as 2016, 17, 18 Ascent, but I could not swear to that. I'm willing to chance it when you are ready to sell. Key for me is the privacy with visibility. Our new rig has limited visibility. It is what I miss most about my Ascent. Thanks.

I have watched many of your shows. I love them. We almost decided to get pressure way accent. But find out the diesel bio additive issue in us. It is 10% or 20% bio additive. It is higher then Mercedes required 5%. It may affect the manufacturer warranty. How do you handle this? Thanks.
@FromShetoMe
4 жыл бұрын
I think Mercedes would have a tough time defending their warranty but we avoid stations that sell B20. Only a few states mandate it, like Minnesota. In the west it is generally 5%. It is unfortunate that big AG has had so much influence in this regard because biofuels are not better for the environment when you calculate all of the inputs.

I’m a home project type ‘do it yourselfer’ but don’t have the equipment to do it right. No sense in trying to reinvent the wheel when you have done an awesome job of fabricating similar to what I was thinking of making. My main priority is to keep eye heat from coming in. I’m interested. Would purchase one from you. My PW is a 2020 on the 2019 chassis. Not sure if it’s dimensionally the same as a 2018. Count me in please.

We will be on the lookout for a 2019 chassis to see if it fits.

From She to Me My wife and watch most all of your videos. Do you think the screen would come in silver? I would think silver would look good with our silver Pleasureway we call Silver Belle. Being from south Louisiana, she is a southern belle, hence the Silver Belle name. Thanks for your videos.

does that fabric also work as sxreening? If I were to be able to make one, which I have experience making the templates, etc. But does that material allow air to pass through so it would also function as screening for the cab windows? I am thinking if I did the magnets differently and it sealed around the windows well enough I could use it in buggy areas to open the windows for airflow and insect protection as well. Or, if not, I could make the side panels out of screening material if it does not.
@FromShetoMe

We used it that way this past week but we didn't have any of the tiniest of insects like midges. Adding a few more magnets would certainly be enough. Skeeter Beaters use magnets and they work well. Will know more as we use it. But the screening does come with different size openings so you may find just the right product. A few have suggested checking out materials that might be available at Home Depot or other hardware stores.

It has been around six months since you did your windshield cover, do you think you will be selling them for the PW OnTours? I hope so!

I will definitely not be making a windshield cover for the Ford chassis. Just too much work. But if anyone is interested in buying fabric, my brother will sell it for $10 per yard.

We had 50mph gusts a few nights ago and it was great. I think it is because it is a mesh so doesn’t act like a sail.

I have sewn many binders without a swing-away binder attachment. it just takes a little more attention and moving slower. For a single project it isn't worth it.

It is from a favorite poem called "A Bridge Across Time" written by Darlene Stevens about her great great grandmother. The last stanza of the poem is: I'll live my life and when it's done I'll live again in those to come. For I'm a bridge from she to me; From those that were, to those to be.
