What kind of wood were you using? Generally you want to have a hard wood like ash or elm. With a backing like you did here even oak or beech will work ok. Also it will help to start with a more thick piece of wood so you have more error margin while tillering.

Your thinking and skills is very good. It is a nice bow and something to be proud of. Congratulations on a project well done. If you want a more powerful bow here is what I know. 1. Use a hardwood. Cypress, if like what grows in swamps in the U.S, will become hard with age. Hardwood is preferred. 2. Allign the grain to the curvature of the bow. If buying at retailer select a grain pattern accordingly. 3. Laminate thin strips to make up the limbs to add strength. 4. Use your tensioner jig to make a thinner and stronger bowstring. 'Serve' it with a dacron string. 5. Using a fiberglass resin with the appropriate mesh fabric will add strength and rigidity. What you used was a help but it is intended for house wall finishing with gypsum wallboard. You did a fantastic job with what you had to work with. Thanks for making the video.

I've made lots of things out of wood which also include Bows. I have a number of power tools to help the process. However looking at your bow and your method very very well done using the absolute minimal tools. In a Survival situation you'll get food with your skills. WELL DONE.

Sir Thank you for your video Very well done and very clear and to the point Your approach was simple and very clear Building a Bow with so very little equipment A block plane, a rasp a small hand saw and a simple utility knife , drywall fiberglass tape some wood glue and a C clamp Do not pay attention to all the negative comments that have been posted those people would find fault with the best makers they must really feel they have to put anything good down so they feel good about them self’s So So sad Keep up the good work and keep on learning It’s the same with me

Get buffalo horn and affix it to the innermost bow, just outside the hand grip, about 10" on either side. Use flexible resin to bond it and wind sinew or hemp around those sections then coat them with more resin. Let dry/cure for 72 hours. That will double the draw weight.

I agree when dealing with softer wood a good backing material will increase pull. a quick google research on cable backed bows will give you an idea. That method was popular among the inuit tribes. You could also look up penobscot or wabanaki bow as another possible solution.

Key to successful board bow is board selection. Key to board selection is understanding wood grain and understanding what constitutes "good" grain pattern. This board is questionable, at best. See how grain runs off or comes onto board edges? Count the # of times. It is excessive. No backing, except another good board or maybe sinew, or strip of fiberglass (NOT fiberglass drywall tape) is going to assure success. Key to successful board bow is board selection. Good luck.

The Fiberglass tape doesn't provide enough tensile stiffness. There aren't enough longitudinal fibers. There are some boatbuilding products(roving) that would work well and provide better stiffness. I remember reading, as a child, about an Indian who made a bow using sinew as a backing on a cedar bow. Cedar has excellent compressive strength and would work better, though the Spruce is pretty good.
@MrRavaging

Cedar is notoriously soft. You generally want to use a whitewood or a hardwood, such as osage or oak.

Looks like pine or cedar that you used, which arent very good wood types for a bow. its well built tho so if u want to add power i would recommend a better bow string and definitely add a couple layers for backing. if possible i would peel the layer you already have have off, and add bamboo instead. it also looks like your draw length is crippled so you might want to tiller the fades a bit more and taper off the tips of the limbs width wise. im an amateur bowyer so i dont have the most seasoned eyes, but thats my 2 cents

so the tillering process that you went through was too short. the wood is too stiff and you need to make the limbs more flexible. if you want to also add more power to it you can make it a recurve or back it with sinew, bamboo, etc, after making the limbs more flexible
