Very nice. I love the shape. And I love red cedar.

Thanks man! Appreciate it! Red cedar is great for turning. Very pretty combo of the red heartwood and white sapwood.

Great project! I'm a new woodturner and am confused on something. Everything I have read days to remove the pith or the wood will crack horribly. You are not the first to leave the pith in to turn a vase or other things. What is your opinion on removing the pith prior to doing a project? How about how dry the wood needs to be?
@turnintoo7887
3 жыл бұрын
Yes, when cutting wood def remove the pith. However for vases made such as this vase, it is unlikely the wood will split because so little of the pith is on the piece. This wood, cedar was also very dry and it did not crack at all after it was completed. Even if the pith is removed, there is a chance the wood will still crack in places, but it is more unlikely. Using, C A glue and sawdust to fill the cracks is a great way to add character to the piece and of course save it from being firewood. I have never given up on a bowl or vase because of a crack, there is always a solution to fix the problem, mainly CA glue and or epoxy/ resin. Thanks for watching and let me know if you need anything else.

I need to get better at doing that. But you are correct. The end grain makes it difficult to cut anyway.

hmmm...never had that happen before. it's probably wet wood still. let it dry or maybe it will make for a more unique looking bowl.
