Great idea to avoid tear out. When we spend time making DIY builds we want them to be quality and this will reduce some of the sanding time. Keep up the great work as the goal is for us to continue to inspire others to build something awesome. 👍🏼

Thanks. I had a few projects where I had nasty tear out. This fixed it

I just used a left over laminate floor plank to do mine. that way i dont have to worry about wood movement.

Laminate will still move. That’s a great idea tho!

You made me laugh when you said "I cried to my mom, and she kissed it better". Great build, Wes. It almost looks too good to be used. Greetings, Christophe

Putting "thin" CA glue on the ends (after your initial miter cut) will harden the wood enough so it doesnt split. Also, dont forget to keep the original close by for angled cuts.

It’s super easy. Mine fit on the first try. I was a little concerned the old one shifted while routing.

haha yeah pretty fancy and specialty tools just to make one but the little 2 way tape idea is pretty cool to make a jig👍

Looks great, would you still be able to do angle cuts?
@WesHamstra

You can. It may widen the slot or just make a new one all together.

OMG that is absolutely beautiful! You could have people mail you their inserts and make custom ones to sell (wink wink)

If you're going to upgrade, may as well make it beautiful while you're at it.

why didnt you just use those yellow inserts to make a zero clearance? they are adjustable to make it so.
@WesHamstra

They are not that adjustable. Still wouldn’t be a zero clearance.

@@WesHamstra gonna disagree. i have a makita that looks identical and i was able to move them over enough to be actually minutely touching the blade. maybe yours are special, i don't know for sure. BTW that turned out awesome.

@@WesHamstra Second! No wait, Third! Wes have you thought about setting up some merch at TeeSpring? Even if you don't sell any, (I pretty much don't) it's a way to buy some for yourself so you can wear your own logo in your videos instead of advertising for Mountain Hardwear... buy an extra one and give it to Doug to wear on his channel... 😇
@WesHamstra

Good idea. I should do that. I am going to send Doug a whole box of them.
