This is awesome, been looking at ways to make custom banners for a project I'm going to be undertaking soon and this was the perfect help. Your guy looked ace with your conversion! Many thanks! :D

That kitbash is awesome! At the end of finishing the banner, what does the final layer of Lahmian medium do?
@WatchItPaintIt

It gets rid of the glossy shine of the 'Ardcoat. It also lets you put paint over decal - since it's pretty much impossible to paint over a gloss varnish - and thank you :)

Oh cool! Thanks! I never did decals and just got some in my Warhammer box so I was curious.

@@HeatherSanto I think all 3 layers of the varnishes are important - first the gloss to create a smooth surface for the decal, then another layer to seal it down so it doesn't peel off, then the lamian medium (or any matte varnish) to take away the shine and let you paint on top of it. Then once I'm doing painting the entire miniature, I spray it all with a matte varnish. It's a process, but way easier than free-handing a complex image :)

For sure! Thank you so much for all the information. I'm not freehanding. Decals all the way!

What's the purpose of the lahmian medium when finishing the banner paintjob?
@WatchItPaintIt

It just makes the surface matte again and easier to paint over. Now I typically just spray the whole model with a matte varnish, then paint on top of that. (Or stop there if the model is done)

Look great! What is the white material you are using for the flag?

It's 0.25mm plasticard that I bought from Green Stuff World - but I've seen people use sheets of copper - and I bet you could just use card stock, and paint a layer of glue or ModPodge over it to hold it in place.

And a added 3inch melee weapon attack 😃😄😁😆😅 5 Smiles. There should be a hole bunch for raise that banner 😳some special laser orbit attack type stuff you want the banner!.😆be paying 2cp anyways.

Out of curiosity, why use gloss varnish and then lahmian medium? Couldn't you just use matte or satin varnish and accomplish the same thing?
@WatchItPaintIt

Gloss is the "toughest" varnish, so I use a layer of that over the decal, but you could definitely just spray/brush that right after with a matte or satin varnish. You don't need Lamian medium at all. (Since making this video I've stopped using Lamian medium entirely, and switched to a matte varnish ;) )

@@WatchItPaintIt ok, it makes sense why you would use it. Do you find you need to layer the matte varnish a bit to make it effective?

What plastic card did you use for the banner?

I think it was 0.5 mm plasticard from Green Stuff World.
