You can also use it to make sauce. Personally I blend one cup of soaked cashews with 2 garlic cloves, half a teaspoon of salt, one tablespoon of lemon juice with half a cup of water - then adding tiny bits of water if the sauce is too thick. This gives you a creamy delicious garlic sauce :) Holds up well in the fridge for a few days. I typically store it in an air tight glass jar, so that my whole fridge doesn't end up smelling like garlic :P

I've tried a variety of nut milks and cashew is the creamiest. Also, good in 'emergencies' since even without soaking they still make good milk, whereas harder nuts need soaking to 'soften them up'. Though I also like the taste of Brazil nut milk. I usually use dates as sweetener, and also fortify the milk with with vitamins (B, D, K) and calcium. Store-bought milks are often similarly fortified, and for good reasons.

Can't wait !
@Marylmac

Probably soak the cashews over night, strain and add your water, leave out the honey for now and just blend for the couple of minutes...Then sample some and see if its gritty or not. I think the honey bound the smaller particles of nut together, and prevented them from being made into a smoothe paste. when satisfied with the consistency, add the honey and see how it goes.

Thank you! I watched another presenter on KZitem and spent $ buying 2 organic nut milk bags from Amazon. My arms and hands were aching after I squeezed that cashew milk, so I decided home made nut milk was for the birds. Milking cows must have run many a dairy maid to the city! Your method looks so much easier, and the recipe is nice and simple. I'm going to try it, but I might have to use an extra fine strainer or buy a French press to strain the residue, according to some of the reviewers here.

Hello. I tried it and it works and it tastes real good. Reason I tried it because I saw it at one fitness channel where the guy drank it (cashew milk from store) and he said it has low calories, but this milk is very high in calories - about 4 times higher than the one from the shop so that leads me to conclusion that in the cashew milk from shop there has to be more water and less cashew. 100g of cashew is like 600-700kcal put there some sweetener and you are reaching 750-800 no problems. I used 100g of cashew and 500ml of water (0.5l) 1 table spoon of honey. So the result is like 700 ml of liquid which contains 700-800 calories which is a lot. It feels weird to using it in diet when it is even more "caloric" than cow milk.

The process is very simple and straightforward. Only one comment - for those who use Vitamix blenders: be careful w/ speed selection since the motor is pretty powerful. I would not use the “High” speed mode. Select “Variable” mode instead and gradually raise the speed dial to about 5-6. This speed was sufficient enough to work with 1 cup of cashews. Thanks again! I am a Big Convert now in favor of homemade cashew milk making and would recommend at least trying this recipe once. In Health & Mindfulness ~ 💜👌

First of all, THANK YOU! I've subscribed to your channel because it was a clear and concise video about how to make cashew milk. You don't want to know how many videos I looked at that were between 5-10 minutes long about making cashew milk and they had less information in them than you 2 minutes!!! Just made two quarts of cashew milk and followed your recipe. My Cosori Pro Blender C700-Pro worked like a dream and in one minute I had creamy, white cashew milk. I soaked the cashews overnight in a covered container. When I opened it up there was an odor, kind of sour. Am I supposed to refrigerate the cashews while they're soaking? When I finished blending the milk it had a sort of sour odor to it. Does this go after being refrigerated? I'm now soaking some cashews to make cashew cream... ** Updated ** I just shook up the bottle of cashew milk in the fridge, opened it and smelled it and it has a very distinctive odor. And I realized what it smells like is yeast! Like when you are blooming yeast in warm water and sugar when you make bread. Is this normal?
@Downshiftology
6 жыл бұрын
Glad you enjoyed my video! And no, that doesn't sound normal. It sounds like maybe your cashews had gone bad before you started making the recipe. Also, make sure you're soaking in a glass container and not plastic as odors from plastic containers can affect other foods.

Cashew milk is awesome. Great for adding to Indian food dishes and other dishes requiring cream or milk. There will be significant sediment though, which is not generally a problem for cooking sauces. I feel this needs to be strained for drinking or using as a coffee creamer, otherwise you may notice a 'pasty' feel in the mouth after consuming. Someone in the comments suggests using the sediment for making cashew flour and I like that idea, but I don't have the time for that. Keep your nut-bag handy folks... it's going to come down to personal preference on this for sure. - P.S. I don't think this needs a sweetener. Don't we have enough of that junk already? Cashews, unlike many other tree nuts, have a natural sweetness to them in my opinion.

Where I live, raw almonds are $1.76 /100g, and cashews are $2.65/100g. But it seems to me that with the cashew milk, you are using the whole nut, but with almond milk, you have that leftover "almond meal" product, so you are not really using the whole nut. So I'm wondering which nut is more cost effective. I generally only use nut milk for coffee and smoothies, and fat content isn't a concern (I'm keto vegan). Which nut do you think would be more cost effective for those uses? And thank you for posting these videos!

Can anyone please explain to me why it's cheaper to buy Silk's Cashew Milk rather than making your own homemade cashew milk? This recipe is half the amount of the Silk's 64 floz carton. Silk's cost $3.50 while this recipe calls for one cup of raw, unsalted cashews, which costs $2.10. That means we have to double that up to $4.20 which isn't cheaper than Silk's. Should I just buy Silk's cashew milk? Is there a difference in taste or nutrition or anything??
@ritikakumar81
5 жыл бұрын
That One User Silk’s is cheaper because they’re making it in mass quantities so they can charge less than the cost of you making one portion. Try buying ur cashews in bulk at Whole Foods. U can even get raw cashews cheaper and in larger bags at ur local Indian store. Try Swad brand.
@thatoneuser8600
5 жыл бұрын
@@ritikakumar81 Sorry, your comment makes no sense to me. How does Silk making cashew milk in mass quantities correlate with their price and how does that correlate with making this recipe in mass quantities correlating to the price of each ingredient in the recipe? I calculated by pounds. 1 pound of cashews costs $6 at Sprouts. One cup in that $6 pound costs $2.10, but because Silk's cashew milk is twice the amount of this recipe, we double the price to make up for it, so it's $4.20. As I said Silk's $3.50 Cashew milk is CHEAPER than two batches of this recipe: $4.20, BECAUSE 1 Silk's Cashew milk carton == 2 batches of this recipe. Silk is cheaper than this recipe.

Question.. I made your cashew milk today and it came out amazing but why is it that you just blended and poured into container without straining it. I did it same as you just wondering why some people strain it with a strainer or the milk bag/cheese cloth. Does it last longer if it’s strained? Does it not separate if it strained? And should I expect to see separation tomorrow when I pull the cashew milk from the fridge? Thank you so much. Great video
@Downshiftology
6 жыл бұрын
There's no need to strain it if you use a high-powered blender as there's nothing left to strain. ;) You can try it, but there's virtually nothing that would end up in the strainer/nut milk bag if you've properly soaked your cashews overnight. This is very different from almond milk, which does need to be strained. And yes, there will be a little separation overnight (as with all homemade nut milks), but just give it a shake and you'll be good! :)

Hi there again, tried your recipe the other day. My mom & i loved it. So creamy & delicious. Hope you can also do a "Almond Milk" recipe as it's lower in Fat.

Should I leave the cup of cashews with water covered at room temperature, overnight, or should I put it in the refrigerator?

My cashew milk went sour the next morning. The cashews were soaking for more than 12 hours for sure. Is this why you think? Thank you!!

I made my first cashew milk yesterday. It was so easy! I love your videos!!! When I put the milk in the storage container, it had a faint line. Does this milk tend to separate? I didn't see the line on yours in this video. I plan on using it to make a pumpkin latte later. :D

Yay!!!! So happy you made your own cashew milk. And yes, it does separate after it's been sitting for a bit or in the fridge. Just give it a good shake before using. :)

I made it and it's pretty good, the problem is mine doesn't really have a smooth mouthfeel despite soaking overnight and blending in vitamix for two minutes. It has a somewhat "grainy" texture I find unpleasant and would like to find a way to eliminate. Wonder if I needed to blend longer, or strain it? The only cashew milk I've had is Silk brand and that was very smooth and creamy. I would like to find some way to emulate that texture. Any ideas? Think I'm going to strain the remaining amount and see if it makes a difference.

Hi Lisa, so I made your cashew milk today and it's so tasty thank you. I wanted to know, do I have lots and lots of cashew crumbs left after that I have had to sift because I don't have a Vitamix ?

I love it ❤️ and it's so easy to make, thank you so much 🤗. I do have a question, I heard that raw cashews are toxic, do you have any research about it, and how has been your experience with them ? I would love to hear about your thoughts and experience on this, thank you so much. Blessings 🤲

Is there any specific type of cashew you're supposed to use for this? Raw, roasted unsalted, exct? My results tasted too earthy, but I followed them to a T, except I added two pitted dates to sweeten
