I really appreciate how you actually show people how to make music instead of showing them little tricks that might be useful, I guess but when I watch one of your videos, I actually learn how to use Ableton in a way that I can then extend into helping me be creative and writing my own music instead of just sounding like somebody else. I think that’s such a beautiful gift to give people and I really admire you for doing it. Keep it up.

So, how do you feel about this... You have obviously understood the Future Garage genre, right? So you can with your skill set produce something that is recognisable as future garage. The ability to pick apart a genre and identify it's components and what makes it what it is - is useful. But where does that leave you as a musician and a creative artist? Please don't take it as criticism, Im just saying this because I struggle with this in my journey and think this video highlights this dilemma in a very good way. I feel that I have a general good understanding of technique, tools, music theory and some genres, but what's next from there... Just liked and subscribed for future updates, just discovered you channel. Looks like great content
@khartbeats
Ай бұрын
These are fair points. Being able to actively listen and dissect the individual pieces of a track or genre is definitely a skill in itself…not totally creative, though. The creative part for me is making music that I enjoy and feel represents me within those “boundaries.” Teaching is also part of my skill set and my own unique creative outlet. What will set you apart is taking the things you are uniquely good at and combining them in maybe new ways. Best of luck on your journey! And thanks for the feedback and sub!

Hi there. I found your channel recently and I'm learning a lot thanks to the clarity and patience with which you explain everything in detail, in addition to using native plugins and sound design. I would really like to see you making more videos of this genre (UK Garage, Future Garage, etc)
@khartbeats
4 ай бұрын
I’ll definitely be doing more of this style. I try to give as much detail as I can, but also make the videos a good length. If they’re too long, I get significantly less view duration and my videos get less exposure. I don’t think I did much to the drums other than recording the knives… Stutter effect is using Ableton’s Autopan and changing the shape to a saw to control volume. Thanks for the suggestion and for watching!

I stumbled over this kind of music around 2012, nice mix comes to mind: "Irrelevant - Dayly Street" ... these physical high hats and such fit very well, I also remember some chains unfolding, squeeking doors etc :) Hitting the knives flat side on at the tip turns them into forks at times, delivering some sustain ... at least mine do ^^

I know that you didn't invent the genre, but what makes this 'garage' (after watching the equivalent of a person saying "I do small engine repair" and then proceeds to spend 100 man-hours designing a new liquid cooled Atkins cycle engine. Not meaning this to have a high degree of snark, I just consider 'garage' to be : more analog, less advanced degree in music, spur of the moment, fun, collaborative. That said, definitely liked and subscribed.

Hey, thanks for the honest insight! Honestly, what’s most fun for me is learning different genres and gaining new skills in the process. I just discovered Future Garage like 6 months ago and it's been a hugely refreshing change in the grooves I hear and feel because of it not having the common backbeat rhythm. This one turned out really great. I'm really really loving these videos! It's great to see someone else who writes music without using a sh*t ton of tracks. I will produce a song for an artist and rarely exceed 10 tracks or so. I do use drum racks, though, so if I extended it to one track per cell that's be a different case, but still not much more that 15-16 tracks. I used Ableton Intro for the last year and a half and never exceeded track limits. Anyway! Great stuff! Excited to binge the rest.

@khartbeats
8 ай бұрын
It’s really just a workflow thing. I find I tend to like drum rack and playing notes in when I’m doing stuff like boom bap, but for electronic music it can be helpful to align it more to the grid. It’s also easier to just manipulate the waveform of the audio for fades, layering, etc. thanks for checking out the video!
