Thank you for your great dog food video. We have followed / modelled. your recipes and in one cooking using an 18 qt electric roaster, we made 19 days worth of food, all packaged in quart ziploc bags and frozen. Our 1 year old chocolate lab pup is really enjoying and we feel so much better about the food we made vs kibble! Thank you again for your inspiration.

Thank you so much. The whole pet industry is to make money too. Just like doctors with the opioid crisis, vets were fed this bs about kibble and not eating human food. All of the bugs and bad ingrediants. I have been feeding our dogs from the table and they are so much better. I am now canning again so I love these meals! Do you have TRUE lists of what dogs can have and what they can't? What portion should be meat/grain/veg?

@janemcauley1

He has a whole lot of recipes I make 4 different recipes and alternate what I feed my dogs. One cup of one of his recipes in the morning and then one cup of another one of his recipes in the evening. I also put a little bit of dry dog food on top for a crunch element. Also the dry has some important vitamins they need. Just a little bit of dry. Since I feed less dry I can afford the more expensive brand that is better for them.

Having a small dog is good for food costs / amount of food to feed! My dogs are small too. The general rule is 2 to 5 percent of dogs body weight in food per day. Depends on age, breed, activity level, etc.. 3% is a good starting point. At 3%, a 9 pound dog would need about 1/3rd pound of food per day.

I've seen everywhere that you should never ever give your dogs cooked bones; that they have to be either raw or powdered. The thing is I have a huge fear of bacteria in raw meats and I've read that eggshells aren't the best option either, so I wonder... is the problem with cooked bones just if you feed them whole? or would it be a problem if I fed my dogs with bones that have been grinded into very very small pieces and then cooked? I'm honestly concerned but I can't find any information about this, only the warning that I should never give them cooked bone.
@earthling1984

I personally would never feed cooked bones. Only raw. My dog has been great on them. He gets all types of raw, cooked, homemade food, homemade treats. The problem with cooked bones is they could splinter easier and cause problems.

I enjoyed watching your video. The way I've learned throughout the years you shouldn't cook your dogs meat all the way through due to the fact you're cooking all vitamins and minerals out. It's just a suggestion just cook the meat until it's almost cooked but not quite like a medium rare. Another thing that worries me. Regular potato skins are toxic to dogs so I'm thinking sweet potato skins are the same thing😮
@earthling1984

I feed raw meat and raw bones as well :) There are places for all types of food. I'll agree you should remove potato skins. As for cooking, yes over cooking can cook out some nutrients, but that happens at very high temperatures. When cooking in liquid it isn't an issue. Same can be said for raw foods, which must be frozen and then thawed before feeding. Freezing also destroys some nutrients. All we can do is try our best to feed as healthy foods as possible :)

Just wanted to add about the potato skins. The first thing found when I searched says, "If the potato skins are cooked then yes you can give them to your dog in moderation.". So, cooked are ok in moderation. But, why risk it, mine as well remove them.

Does the chicken thighs have bones? Or should all meet be boneless
@earthling1984
11 ай бұрын
Cooked bones should never be fed, only raw. My dog will eat a whole cornish hen raw, bones and all. But some people are more worried about bones. In these cases, there are options. You can save and dry out chicken bones when you have a rotisserie chicken. Then grind them up and add to your cooked meals. Marrow is also very healthy. I get large beef marrow bones from the store or butcher. They are too big for my dog to eat the bones, but he gets all the marrow out. I freeze them and they keep him busy for hours. You could also scoop out the marrow. But fish and chicken bones are easy to grind up in a blender.

And save all your egg shells. Don't toss them. Rinse them and let them dry. Grind them up and put them in the food.

Thanks for all this info! So when doing a crockpot recipe I can just add eggs with the shells? Or should it be just the shells?
@earthling1984
11 ай бұрын
@heatherleelovejoy9690 I add eggs. But eggs cook super fast in the hot liquid. So, I add in the eggs at the end. If you had extra pre-saved shells add them at any time. Add the liquid eggs at the end, and make sure to stir when adding them. They'll be cooked in like a minute. So stir so they mix around and aren't just in one clump.

My 13 year old dog who has never been sick or injured his whole life disagrees. He still acts like a puppy. But no one meal I make is good to feed always. I make homemade food different every time to make sure my dog gets a variety of healthy ingredients. I also only feed homemade cooked food for one meal a day. I also feed raw muscle and organ meats, and raw bones. I also make homemade healthy treats (see my dog treat playlist). Variety is key. Nobody wants to eat the same meal, every day, for life anyways.
