You can make some amazing rock textures on the cheap with the foil and the plaster. If you crumple the foil first then open it up it makes a decent rock mold that feels very organic. You can also sub out some of the water and add in pva instead to the plaster to make an even stronger plaster rock. Also might want to consider shredding your toilet paper first and soaking it in pva. Makes it almost a clay consistency that dries quicker, harder and is make manageable. In fairness though it is messier than the method outlined in the video. Awesome job, you earned my sub

I agree with you on the tufts being boring by themselves. They go so much better alongside any other type of foliage :D Very synergistic bit.

You can get sheets of foam underlay from screwfix etc, if you stack em and glue them it’s a good alternative to buying those xps boards - you can also get a LOT for £15/20 and it’s almost exactly the thickness of those bricks. Source: myself trying to find xps in the uk.

Nice ! As you are talking about "budget" maybe you could indicate the money you paid for the parts that you bought (of course not the toilet paper and future Pringles tube ;-) )

Curious about the durability... I wouldn't think the wall of stacked foam bricks would be that sturdy (although tree actually probably helps as an additional support)... and I'm a member of the black-magic-craft basecoat (for those who have somehow escaped knowledge - mod-podge mixed with paint - gives a base coat color, hardens & seals foam) cult to prime foam & give it added durability. Also curious if you had any melting from the spray primer you used on raw foam? Build looks great... adding the general idea (ruins overtaken by big tree roots/branches) to my project todo list... & my mind is blown by the general technique you used with the foam bricks... particularly that arch!

Yes that’s part of the reason I put the tree in! 😆 I love black magic craft! Truth be told I just wanted to use spray paint because it was fun, and I was worried about not getting in all the cracks with the mod podge paint concoction. The spray did disintegrate the bricks a bit, but it was a happy accident because I ended up loving that look! Thanks so much for your kind comment🙏🏼 defo going to have to try the mod podge concoction next time 😆

See if you can find XPS foam. It's way easier to work with. That cosplay foam is a bear.

It’s rubbish isn’t it! I found some xps in the end but found that difficult to work with too as I haven’t really used it before
